Mr. Conron pointed out that be-
fore grants, could -be obtained it
would be necessary to ferin a Com-
munity Centre Boark which ;would
'then be the suceesatir to tlit Water
, Safety Committee. To form this
board, he stated that it: was ne-
cessary for ,the town council to
pass a by-law, and once it had been
approved at Queen's Park, then
plans could move ahead.
Mayor McKinney said that he
foreSaw no difficulty in having such
a by-law passed, and suggested the
secretary of the meeting,. Lloyd
Carter, have a letter requesting the ••
by-law in the hands of the council
at its meeting on Monday night. A
motion covering this action was
made by Willis Hall and seconded
by,Iiugh Carmichael.,
G. W. CruickShank enquired
whether the investigating commit-
tee had thought of the possibili-
ties of a covered pool, for year-
round use. Mr,. Conron said that the
committee was seeking such Infor-
mation in Hamilton 'at the present
time, but did not have anything
to offer in this respect for the
meeting.

Conron said that he had gone into
considerable detail on the matter
with the committee in the town of
Clinton, which has just completed
the erection of a pool in that com-
munity.
Mr. Conron sail that a pool, 35X
120, feet, would cost approximately
$35,000 including a bathhouse, fil-
tration and chlorination system
and, fencing,
Approximate figures would be
$13,500 for the excavation and the
cement work for the pool proper,
and surrounding aprons, The filtra-
tion and chlorinating system, 46,500,
piping, excluding installation, $1,
200, bathhouse, $8,000 and fencing
$2,700. Diving boards and other mis-
cellaneous equipment would be
extra to these figures. If a larger
pool were contemplated, Mr. Con-
ran pointed out, then extra costs
would, of course, be involved.
Dr. W. A., Crawford 'inquired
whether the committee bad any in,
formation an, operating costs, and
how they would, be met,
Again, .Mr... Conron _replied. He
said that in the pools which the
committee had ,investigated, it ap-
peared that operating. costs were
met from revenue obtained from
swimming fees. In the case of Clin-,
ton, it had cost about $150 per
week for wages. He did not, he said,
have the complete figures on other
operating costs, but at Tee'swater
it took about $1,500 over admis-
sions, a sum whiCh was financed by
the Lions Club.
Financial Problems
The matter of raising money was
a'question which received a good
deal of discussion at the meeting.
Mr. Conran pointed out that one
excellent offer had been made by
the Kinsmen Club, namely $10,000
over a period of five years, and
that' if 'the project were to be set
up as a community centre, the On-
tario Government would pay a
grant of 25 per cent of costs up to
a total of $5,000.
It is hoped that there will be
other offers of assistance from the
organizations represented at the
meeting, and that the remainder
will have to be raised by subscrip-
tion front private citizens, Mr. Con-
ron pointed out that there are
about 1,000 families in the town
and district, which should be in-
terested in the pool, and on this
basis,the pool would only represent
$35.00 per family, At • Clinton a
door-to-door canvass was held on-
three separate occasions and the
bulk of the revenue for the pool
in that community came from such
sources.
The chairman also said that in
Clinton the construction had ,been
started before the revenue was on
hand, and work had been carried
out as the necessary funds were
received.
DeWitt Miller suggested that a
fund raising committee he set up
and °pinioned that he was cenfi•
dent that the necessary funds could
be raised through bard work, pro-
vided those interested in having a
pool would get behind the project
to provide the necessary personnel
to do the work of canvassing.
On Motion of 'H, P, Carmichael
and Willis Hall, Mr, Miller was
appointed to act as chairman of
a fund raising tolmalittee. After
further discussion, Mr, Miller
moved that Mr. Carmichael be vice
chairman of the conintittee which
would later be expanded to include
representatives from the various
organizations interested in the
creation of a pool. The motion met
with the approval, of the meeting
and was seconded by James Cart.
After further discussion 'of the
aspects of other committee re-
quirements, Cal Burke moved that
the Water Safety Committee be
authorized to appoint the necessary
chairmen Of the various
tees which Would be needed, such
