Retarded. Children
Week Is Slated
For Not3ember 16-27
The Canadian Association for Re-
tarded Children ended its first na-
tional conference with a passionate
call for parents, the community and
all levels of government to co-op-
erate in helping all retarded child-
ren.
The president; Laurie H. Hall of
Montreal, announced that Novem-
ber 16-21 will be Canadian Retard-
ed Children's Week.
Prime Minister Diefenbaker sent
a letter of congratulations from the
Federal Government, endorsing the
work of CARC and supporting re-
tarded children's week. *
"It is encouraging to know that
something constructive is being
done to develop new concepts to
meet the needs of both the mentally
retarded person and his family," he
said.
"It is my sincere wish that the
efforts of. the Canadian association
will continue, as they have in the
past to inspire each and every one
of us as individuals to share, with
the entire Canadian community the
responsibility for our less fortunate
citizens,"

LI a moving address to the clos-

many of then]. parents of retarded
children:
"We have a right to be heard
and to speak so that the tall and
thick wall that society and the
World has erected around our
children tremble and fall and that
a new world will be'built for them."
"It become§ <clearer and clearer
