first Civil Defence exercise, was
staged Friday night, simulating
eceiditions which mild prevail in

actual • warfare. The entire plan,
which called for full empleyment
Of tovIn police and fire serviees,
the doctors and staff of the Wing-
ham Hospital, as well as dozens of
volunteer CD Workers, was design.

in the Civil Defence setup which
is being organized here,

theoretrical information that the
Windsor-Detroit area had been
devastated by nuclear bombs frau)

Winghern and shortly before their
arrival' an. RCAF group from Cell-
Irene, intercepted an enemy air-
force unit above Winghams • The
enemy aircraft supposedly jetisonecl
incendiary horabs over the south
end of the town, creating the need
for immediate rescue
and hospital services;

centre, connected by radio link
to Kitchener and Seaforth, as well
as te the temporary radio centres
within the town, received word
that an 'air raid was pending.

posed swimming pool prbject in
town, the firemen agreed unan-
imously that their selection of a

of the four fires to which the
brigade had been called filming
September.

Police Association last week, He
had a score of 349 out of a pos-
sible 360. •
The event drew 130 entries from
all parts of Ontario. Bert has been
top winner in eight similar events
during the past 20 years and has
won many other prizes.
At this year's shoot, held in
Bridgeport, he was second in the
master class with 231, one point
behind the winner, In the combat
match he was again second with
118 points,, while the winner in this
class had 119. Twenty Tables'

The firemen ascertained that the
danger of fire was past. There was
no damage other thee that caused
by the smoke itself,

of bowlers from Wingham. In com-
pany with John Hanna, Gordon
Buchanan and Harcourt Mundy,
he met many famous British bowl-
ers and their tour included a trip
to France.
Mr. Crawford is survived by his
Wife, the former Sarah M. Conroy,

CKNX RADIO TO.,
INCREASE POWER
Work will commence immediate:-
y on the enlargement of the CKNX
Radio transmitter station on High-
way ,.No. 4, two miles south of
town. .
.The radio station has been grant-
ed official permission to increase
its pOwer from 1,000 to 2,500 watts,
which will greatly increase the
broadcast area, particularly to the
south and east. The increased
power will be used only in •the day-
time.
The transmitter building will be
doubled in size, but the antenna
equipment will not be altered. It
is expected that the work will be
pompleted early in December,
