DIES. AT BRIGHTON
GORRIE—A highly \ esteemed
rector of the parish of •Gorrie,
Pordwich and Wroxeter,a for 15
years,' the Rev. Canon Robert Seen-
',lei Jones, of Brighton, died sud-
denly at, the Trenton • Memorial
Hospital on Tuesday, September Iti,
at the age of 69.
' He was born at Athens, Ontario,
the !ion of an Anglican clergyman,
'He received his high school educe
tion at. Cornwall and was a gredu-
;etc of Trinity 'College, Toronto,
He was made canon of St, Paul's
Cathedral, London, in 1944, and
was rural deen of Grey. He retired
to live in Brighton five years ago.
He enlisted during the first
World War and served in England.
. His Ern perishes• .were .Russell,;
Ottawa and Brantford. He dame to
Gorrie in 1920; remaining until
1935, when be' went to St. David's'
at London,• then to Durham and
WROXETER
Markdale.
His wife, the former Edith Nes-
bitt, survives with one son, Rich-
ard, of Oakville and one grandson,
Rickie, and a granddaughter, Don-
na.
Funeral service was in St. Paul's
Anglican Church, Brighton, on
Thursday afternoon and burial
was in Mount Hope Cemetery,
Brighton.

home of Mrs, Clare Harris with
Mrs. Anson Demerling, president
in charge, Mrs. Royden Devitt had
devotions and gave,the Indian 'ver-
sion of the 23rd Psalm which was
very interesting.
Mrs. Lyle Simmons gave 'the
motto, "Look on the Sunny Side, of
Life''. She said. take all things. on
good grace and look for the geed
in everyone. A smile will often
help someone Who feels 'blue. She
read a' esein by 'the same title.
Roll call was answered by dis-
playing something made from a
yard of goods. Two prizes , were
given, one to Mrs. Clare Harris the
other to Mrs. William" McCann.
Skirts, aprons, tea' cloths and
blouses were on display. ,
Letters were read from' Salida
Tea Co. and Radio Evaluation. Re-
ports were given on the park pro-
perty, Mrs. Clare Harris gave a
poem, "September",
" The guest speaker, Mrs. Betty
Ann McGowan, home, economist
from station CKNX, was intredec-
ed by Mrs. W, Hargrave. She, dem-
onstrated, recipes from leftovers;
which members sampled. She was
given a gift by Mrs. Robt.
Plans were made to have Institute
members visit TV Station CKNX
very soon.
The Institute Quartette will at-
tend the Area convention at Guelph
on September 25th, and plans were
made for transportation. The meet-
ing closed with the Queen, Lunch
was served by Mrs. ItoSs
Mrs. Crosby Sothern and Mrs. W.

grave Women's Institute held on
Tuesday afternoon in the com-
munity centre. The business ses-
sion was conducted by Mrs. Rich-
ard Procter,
Mrs. Lawrence Vannan was ap-
pointed to be, assistant leader at
the fall training school, in place of
Mrs. Lewis Stonehouse, Who is
unable to go. The resolutioni for
the' area convention, were. voted

were appointed as delegates to the

in a Homemaking Club and to

decided' to Send $10 to the Cancer
Society and also to give a sum of

ity is extended to Mrs. Eldred
Nichol in the loss of a sister, Mrs.
Edith Spencer, Stratford, who
passed away a.t.e the horde of eel*
son with whom she resided. In-
terment was in Milverton cemetery
on Thursday last. Mr. and IVIre.
Nichol were in Stratford Wednes-
day and Thursday.

Circle of the Gorrie United Cherch
met at the home of Mrs. Allan
Hyntititan on Monday evening, Sep-
tember 15th, yvith 14 members pre-
sent.
Mrs: Clifford Pyke was in charge
,of devotions, taking as her theme
"Bitter Experiences Have a Place
in Life's Plan", pointing out that
the bitter and poisonous things
that break our hearts as well as
life's lovely and beautiful thillgs,
go to make up Iife's plan. •
Mrs. DeWitt Adams had charge
of the business. Roll call was ans-
wered by "School Memories". Mrs.
C. Gregg conducted a very inter-
esting* contest, A eocial half hour
was enjoyed and lulich Was served
by Mre. Russell Powell, Mrs. C.
Gregg and the' hostess. ,

hall was filled to capacity on Pei-
day night in honer, of. Mr, and Mrs.
Bruce MoCiement, newlyweds.

Grasby. Birthdays were remem-
bered and there were 11 home and
28 hospital visits to the sick and
shut-in , recorded,. An invitation
was received and accepted to meet
with the Afternoon Auxiliary on
October 14th for their thaneoffer-
ins; meeting with the Evening Aux-
iliary to provide a musical number.
The November meeting will be held
at the home of Mrs. Harold Vin-
cent. The group decided to make,
two quilts with each member mak-
ing one or two blocks from either,
flannelette or print.
Mrs. Ross Anderson was nomin-
ated to go to the sectional meeting
as convener of the resolution com-
mittee for 1959, with Mrs. Sam
Sam,,Pletch and Mrs. Ted Fear as
delegates to go and nominate Mrs
Anderson, and to' give a gift of
$5.00 in memory of the late presi-
dent, Mrs. Wheable, to help buy
hospital operating eaulement.
It was decided, to have a small
summary of the study book given
at each meeting before the wor-
ship period. Mrs. Jack Taylor's
group 'was in charge of the wor-
ship service opening with Psalm 21
by Mrs. Taylor followed by prayer
by Mrs. Harold Vincent and a
hymn, Mrs. Gordon Pengelly read
the Scripture from Deuteronomy, 8
