I • MASS SERVICE DELO ON SUNDAY EVENING Born and raised a Hindu in early youth he became dissatisfied with Hinduism. Being a student and a seholar be began his study of eom- parative religions which ultimately led him to embrace Christianity. Always a devoted student of the Bible, he has latterly been the in- strumental agent in the adventur- ous story of the printing of the Bible in the Tibetan language. This, and the part he has played as the thief translator of the Bible in Sindi, have brought him world- wide fame. Because of his first- hand knowledge of the area, his episcopal work chiefly lies in the Sind area now in South Pakistan— Mostly desert which reaches in lahd from Karachi, the only port in Pakistan, Sixteen bishops of the Church of India, Pakistan, Burma, and 'Cey- lon were present at Bishop Chandu Ray's consecration, including Bish- op Heber Wilkinson of Amritsar Diocese and Bishop Delviel Df Ceylon, both of whoth have re- zently visited Canada, Bishop Chandu Ray has been invited to Canada for a speaking tour of one Month by the Primate, Archbishop BartOot, and the Missionary Society of the Anglican Church of Canada, following the Lambeth Conference. Re Will also be spending a month in similar work in the U.S.A, on invitation of the Protestant EDW. copal Church, Bishop Ohandu Bay will visit in Whigliam and address a meeting to be held in St. Paul's' Church, on rriday, October 3 at 8 o'clock, Wingham is in for one of the most impressive eients in its history. On Friday evening of this week the local .Civil Defence group ,will stage Exercise "Flame-Up", a mock war disaster situation which will simulate conditions which 'very easily could exist in the event of enemy action on this continent. For the purpose of the exercise its is presumed that the following conditions prevail. A state of war exists. Two days ago thermo- nuclear weapons were employed, with devastating effect, against the Detroit-Windsor area. Those persons who escaped, or survived, were directed to Stratford, Ontario. During the past 24 hours the influx of evacuees has jammed -this last city to overflowing. Consequently arrangements have been ,made to re-allocate this ,overflow to Huron County. Wingham is to expect approximately 50 persons who will travel from Stratford via No. 8 and No. 4 Highways. Estimated time of arrival in Wing- ham 2100 to 2130 hrs. (9.00 to 9.30 p.m.). At 2000 hrs. (8.00 p.m.) warning is received from Zone Jsio. 3 H.Q. at Kitchener, that a large force of hostile aircraft has been detected, apparently proceed- ing to points in the U.S. This force is expected to pass over the VVingham area at approximately 2030 hrs. (8.30). At 2015 hrs. (8.15) Signal BLUE is received and the public is alerted to the approaching danger. At 2030 hrs. (8.30) Signal RED is.receiVed and the Air Raid warning is sonnded. On arrival over Wingham the dhostile force is enkaged by -intefeeptors front Station Cen- tralia. Several. hostile aircraft are destroyed and one aircraft in distress jetlisons its cargo" of incendiary bombs, which fall on the South end of Wingham. The fire brigade and rescue teams go into action. .Cas- ualties are removed to Wingham General Hospital by the ambulance service. Hydro services operate spor- adically and communications have to be made almost entirely by radio. At 2115 hrs. (9.15) the evacuees arrive from Stratford. Because of the conditions existing here they are taken to No. 1 Welfare Centre and fed com- munally. After this blankets and necessary clothing are issued. Evacuees are then directed to No. 1 Warden Post and placed in civilian billets. , Residents of this community are asked to take particular note of the details which have been out- lined above. During the period of the exercise thun- derflashes, which are 'dummy bombs, without the power to do any damage, will be exploded to .simu- late the noise of battle. Incendiary bombs will be dropped in the open area south of the town. This will not be an occasion for alarm — rather for serious consideration of the need for every person in the community to realize that we must be prepared for realities of this kind. , If an official emergency should arise, requiring the services of a Doctor, Ambulance err the Fire De- partment . . call must be made to the Wingham Police Department, at 296. Approximate timetable for' the various aspects of the exercise is given below; 7.30 p.m. Communications staff man Control ane check two way contact on Provincial and Local nets. 7.45 p.m. Advice re evacuee 'movement. 8.00 p.m. Air Raid Warning "YELLOW" (Lloyd's whistle) 8.15 p.m. Air Raid Warning "BLUE" (Town siren - short blast) 8.30 p,m.
