There passed away in Westmin-
ster HosPital, London, op Tuesday,
August 12, James Albert Carter, of
Clinton, veteran of the First World
War. He was in his 72nd year, '
He was born in Goderich Town-
ship on May 31, 1887, to, the late
James Carter and Elizabeth Vin-
cent. Although he spent most of
his life in Clinton, he lived for
some time in Goderich, and also
Lucknow, where he was known, to
many.'
On April 7, 1919 he married the
former Emily Fox, of Warwick-
shire, England.
Surviving are three daughters.
(Millicent), Mrs., Ernest Carter.
Lucknow; (Aileen), Mrs. Peter Car-
ter, Holyrood; (Dorothy), Mrs.
Michael Willie, Wingham; three
sons, George, of Wingham; Wil-
liam, of Spartansburg. Penna.; and
Lionel, of Phoenix, Arizona; and
thirty grandchildren. Also surviv-
ing are three sister's, (Maude); Mrs.
Mehin Marton, Goderich; (Susan),
Mrs. William Bolton, Goderich, and
Miss Sarah Carter. Clinton, He
was predeceased by two brothers
and one sister.
The funeral was held from the
Beattie funeral home, Clinton, on
Friday, August 15 at 2.30 p.m. In-
terment was made in Clinton
Cemetery with the Rev. D. J. Lane
officiating. ;The pallbearers were:

Bruce Nicholson, Ross Habkirk
Roy Habkirk and Howard Snell.

',The annual meeting of the local
hockey club is to be held in the
couribil chamber next Wednesday
evening, Sept. 3rd, at eight o'clock.
A -review of the past season's
activities will. be one feature of
the meeting and it is expected that
tentative plans will be made for
the up-coming, winter months.
The club has asked The Advance-
Times to express appreciation to
the public for the support given
last winter, both in attendance at
the hockey games and in the pur-
chase of tickets to help with ex-
penses; also to those who offered
their cars for transpportation, to
Dr. McKibbon for medical services,
to J. P. McKibbon for free first
aid materials, Len Crawford for
uniform sweaters, and the many
others who helped in various ways.
Money to finance the club was
raised last year from tw,o sources,
the First through donations to 4i
fund publicized -by The Advance-
Times, totalling $58.00. Donors
were, Kinettes, $25.00; Rebekahs
