FORDWICH—The Women's In-
stitute met at the home of Mrs
Walter Horshurg, The president,
Mrs. Anson Demerling, opened the
meeting in the usual manner, Mrs.
Mark Armstrong had devotions,
The motto, "A Backward Glance
May Promote A Forward Step't,
was taken by Mrs. Scott Clarkson,
She said, learn to be nice to live
with in our homes, the community
and the world and nations will be
better, Roll call was answered by
a popular song "In My Teens." This
being Grandmothers' Day, every
grandmother was presented with a
corsage,
Mrs. Anson Demerling was voted
as delegate to the area convention,
Mrs. William McCann as alternate.
Committees were named to set up
a booth at the fair also to help
fair board.
Mrs. Emma Williamson reported
on a visit to the adopted soldier at
Westminster Hospital. $5.00 was
voted to a member for a trip to
Toronto re quilt competition.
A debate, resolved that modern
woman is more help to her hus-
band than grandmother, was held.
Negative was taken by Mrs, Stan
Bride and Mrs. Russell Nichol;
affirmative by Mrs. 'Clarence Gib-
son and Mrs. HoWard Harris.
Many good points were brought out
on both sides, the main one for
the affirmative being modern wo-
men are better educated and able
to go out and earn a living, but
grandmother helped her hubband to
make our homes and the land what
it is today by hard work. The
affirmative won by just a few
points,

Funeral Monday
For R. G. Nay
FORDWICH-,--A respected resi-
dent of this community, -Robert
George Nay, died at the home of
his son-in-law, Glen F. Johnston,
on August 16th. Mr. Nay had been
in failing health for thepast yeEtr.
He was horn in Howick Town-
ship on March 22, 1874, a son of the
late Samuel Nay and Martha Hig-
gins. He farmed in the Lakelet
district until 1927 when he moved
to lot 17, con, 8, Howick. He re-
tired in 1940' when his son-in-law
took over the farm. A member of
the Fordvvich United 'Church, Mr.
Nay had served for many years
on the church hoard,
He was married to the former
Mary A, Welsh, who predeceased
him In 1952. Surviving are one
daughter, Mrs. Glen F. (Marion)
Johnston and two grand-daughters,
Mary and Helen Johnston,
The funeral was held oh Monday,
August 18 at the Moir funeral
home in Gorrie at 2.30, with Rev*
A. F. Gardner officiating. The
Pallbearers Were ,Gilbert Howes,
Robert Gibson, Gordon Steinbacher,
William Moti*airi, Aitchison Wal-
lace and Harvey Bride* Interment
was in. Fordwich cemetery,
