Church Service
GORRIE—There was a good 'at-
tendance for the annual church
service of the L.O,L. and L.O,B,A.
lodges on Sunday morning in the
Anglican Church when the rector,
the Rev. E, C, Attwell,. was the
preacher. . He said July 12th is
celebrated in memory' of a -great
victory and as Christians we keep
in memory Christ's victory aver
sin. His text was from Romans
6:12, "But now being made free
from sin -and become servants to
God ye have your fruit unto holi-
ness and the end everlasting life."
He spoke of the part love of our
fellowmen should take in our lives.

Popular Place
GORRIE—The Gorrie Commun-
ity Park has beena very popular
picnic spot this summer, On Sun-
day the Newman' family held a re-
union and on Monday the Galla-
way family had their reunion.
There have also been • many
church: groups from other towns
coming for picnic; besides many,
smaller gatherings, It is a natural
beauty spot with the Maitland
River and darn adding much to it's
beauty.

Mrs. Alain Dunbar was hostess
to the ladies of Knox Presbyterian
W,M,S, on Thursday evening.
Mrs. Garner Nicholson presided
and opened the meeting with a
verse of hymns. The Scripture
reading from John 14 and Corin-
thians 12, was 'read by Mrs. Ken
Barbour. Mrs. J. C. McBurney
gave the woman' of the Bible and
told of Queen Esther. The secre-
tary's report was heard and treas-
urer's report given.
The roll. call was answered with
the name of a missionary and of-
fering was taken,
Mrs. Joe Dunbar had charge of
thethe business period and also read
a letter from the Rev. Jas. Dick-
son of Taiwan, Formosa. This was
followed by the Glad Tidings Pray-
er,
The 'topic was from the study
book, "Japan. To -day" and the
chapter "Post War Friends and
Gains" of that country was given
any Mrs. Clifford Pardon, followed
by prayer by Mrs. O. G. Anderson.
Mrs. Nicholson closed the meet-
ing with the reading of hymn 676.
A dainty Iunch was served by the
hostess and a social half hour en-
joyed.

GORRIE--Mrs, Doran Thornton
was hostess at a linen and kitch-
en shower in honor of Miss June
Stokes, a bride' of Saturday. Two
bridal contests were enjoyed,
Misses Elizabeth Stokes and Al-
berta Haugh presented the gifts to
the bride, who was seated in a de-
ebrated. chair, ' Twenty-six ladies
attended and lunch was served at
the close of the evening.

Donna Lillian McLean of London,
daughter of Mr,. and' Mrs. Ira Mc-
Lean, Wroxeter, became the bride
of Donald Rae Gibson, of Monkton,
on •July 11th, at '7.30 p.m. He is a
son of Mr. and Mrs. John C. Gib-
son, Wroxeter. The double -ring
ceremony took place in, Wroxeter
United Church with the bride's
great-uncle, Dr, E, R,• McLean, of-
ficiating. The church was decorated
with roses, sweetpeas and candle-
abra,,
Miss Berva Gallaher of Wtiroxeter
presided at the organ and Leslie
Baler, of Monkton, soloist, sang'
"At Dawning" • and the ''Twenty-
third Psalm," '
The bride was given in marriage
by her father, She wljrc a waltz -
length gown 'of •silk organza over
net and satin with a full skirt with
chapel sweep. It had a pleated
cummerbund, The Alencon lace
bodice fashioned a scoop neck-
line
eckline and short shirred sleeves, She
wore nylon net mitts and her elbow,
length veil of elnbrodiered Illusion
was held with a coronet of rhine-
stones and seed pearls. Sweetheart
reset and white stephanotis ,trade
up her cascade bouquet.
Mrs. Marilyn Collier, of London,
Sister of the bride, was matron of
honor and Mrs, Betty Bradshaw
and Mrs. t#wynne Brown, sister'
of the grbdtn, both of Wroxeter;
were bridesmaids, They wore Idea -
tical gowns of blue crystal'chan%

Miss Audrey Gilmour
On Monday evening of'last 'week
about forty friends gathered at the
home of Miss Helen Ford, Leopold
St,, in honour of Miss Audrey Oil
mour, whose marriage takes place
on July 19th.
Enjoyable contests were conduct-
ed
ed by Miss Ford and Miss Lois
Walker. Then the bride engaged in
a treasure hunt at the conclusion
of which the discovery was made of
a matching pair of step-up tables
and a large hand -painted picture,
Audrey expressed her appreciation:'
The hostesses, assisted by Mrs,
Wm. ,Ford, Mrs, Gordon Walker,
and Miss Frandes' Walker served.

Brother Buried at
Shackleton, Sask.
A former resident of this. district,
George Doig, passed away at Shac-
kleton, Sask., on Monday, July 7
as the result of a heart condition.
Mr. Doig Was married to the for-
mer Irma Williamson, whose fam-
ily lived in Wingham for a number
of years 'before going West,
Mr, and Mrs. Doig had two sons
and two daughters, all born in the
West, who survive. Miss Nellie
Doig of Mildmay and Mr. James
Doig 'of Wroxeter are sister and:
brother, of the deceased.
The funeral was held on Friday,
July lath with interment in the
family plot at Shackleton, Sask.

bride's mother ,yeas attired in a
sleeveless powder blue linen dress
with matching jacket and lace and
rhinestone trim,' Her accessories'
were blue and white and. her. cor-
sage was pink roses. She wore a
white gold pendant, the gift
from her husband on their 'wad-
ding day, Their daughter Was Mar-
ried on their 28th wedding anni-
versary.
The groom's mother wore an''
aqua nylon net gown with front
pleats and button trim.. Her ser-
sage was red roses and ' her `acee-
cones were white.
For a wedding trip to 'Michigan
and Northern Ontario- the bride
wore a two-piece cocoa -beige linen'
ensemble with satin ribbon inserts;
cocoa brown and beige accessoried
and a corsage of yellow tinted
