Here are a few suggestions for
getting your entboard meter in
shape for the boating season,
Actually your. preparations for
spring •should haVe started when
you laid pp your motor last winter.
Let's assume that you cleaned it,
stored it upright and wiped it
down with a light oil to prevent
moisture damage,
Cetfing the motor ready involves
checking the electrical system, WI
briPating the driveshaft and lower
gears, inspecting the propeller and
cleaning the rooter. First remove
the spark plugs, ciean and regap
according to the manufacturer's
specifications. If ,the plugs seem
pretty well worn,, you'll probably
be Jrnoney ahead to get new ones.
If your motor Is'one of the big
ti-cylinder Jobs,' be sure that the
right loads are snatched to the
right cylinders when 'replacing' the
plugs. '
Before the plugs are' installed,
squirt, olithrough the' spark plug
openings, eit ;grounc14- the leads
and filth the motor over• several
times to distribute the lubricant.
Check the magneto points. Clean-
ing can be done by using a bard,
absorbent paper. Then adjust for
proper clearance - the motor man-
ual will give you the proper clear-
ance Width. If the points are badly
pitted, mit in neW ones-.

Your next step is to lubricate the
driveshaft and lower gears. With
your motor in an upright position,,
remove the grease plugs and drain
the lubricant, Refill• from the bot-
tom hole until the oil runs out of
the top, ,then replace the grease
plugs, All external linkages should
then be oiled. The correct grade of
oil and grease for your motor can
be found in the owner's manual.
PROPER CHECK
Take a good look -at your pro-
peller. If there's a chance it might
have been bent, rerrioVe. it , and
have it checked by a reliable ser-
viceman. Ms, hard to' detect a
slightly off pitch propeller but it
can certainly - affect the Perfor:
mance. To take off the propeller
be sure the motor is in .neutral., Re-
move the cotter pin, the propeller
nut and the 'prop. This is a good
time to check on the condition 'of
the drive pin. If it's bent or worn
replace it. A new cotter pin each
time you remove the prop is a
trouble-saving practice and it costs
practically nothing,
TOUCH-UP PAINTING -
'If your motor needs paint this is
the best time to do the, job. Use
white gas or a commercial solvent
to clean the areas to be painted.
Sand the spots and "'feather" .the
edges into the painted . area. Use a
little zinc-chromate.primer..for an
Undercoat, and let dry for an hour
before, applying the final coat. Al-
16w at least 24 hou'r's. before puttihg
the unit into water. Ask your mar-
ine dealer about suitable touch-up
paints,
Now you are ready for the water,
Fill tip your' tank with the proper
mixture of oil and gasoline and
start her up. Happy cruising!

HASKINS HOME IS
DAMAfiED BY FIRE
The' home of Elmer Haskins,
three miles 'east of Behnore, was
extensively "damaged- by fire on
Wednesday ,of 'last week. Sparks
from the .Chimney apparently ig-
nited the Shingles on the roof and
the fire was discovered .by mem-
bers of the .., at- the supper
hour.'
While theire .brigades, from both
Mildmay Wailterton were on
their way ..to the ,Haskins home
neighbours, formed a bucket bri-
gade in an effort to hold the flames
in check. Others removed the
furniture from the home and star-,
ed it-in a nearby drive shed,
Most of ,the roof of the large
stone house was destroyed and the
fire worked its way down through
the interior -walls, causing exten-
sive damage ,inside; A. high wind at
the time fanned the flames but
fortunately blew the embers away
from the barn and other farm
buildings.

Have you planned your
Estate so your wife and
children will be safe . . . or have you simply
'made a will, and left it at'that?
Think twice! Could your wife administer your
estate? Does she understand Tax regulations
and Succession Duties? If she died, how long
would your children wait for the courts to
settle your will . . . until they were 21? What
would they do until then?
Think twice, and you'll realize why so many
