Two Brant Township fariners,
Wesley Abell and Harold' Young,
have taken court action because
of land appropriated by Bruce
County Highways Department, The
two 'complainants have farms along
County Road No. 3, which is being
widened, now that the province
has taken it over as a develop-
ment road,
. Mr, Abell and Mr. 'Young are
dissatisfied With the, amount paid
for the ''and they lost. Payments
are three times the assessed value
for the land, plus $2.25 a running
rod to replace fences, The case
will be heard in Walkerton April

The annual 'meeting of the ;In-
stitute was held In the community
hall on Thursday afternoon with:
16 ladles present and with Mrs.
Gaunt pi:esiding. The roll call was
well responded io by the paying of
fees and housecleaning hints.
The reports of the standing com-
mittees showed a year of progress.
Miss Rutherford, in presenting
hers on historical research, asked
for old pictures of people of the
community for the Tweedsmuir
Book, The, secretary-treasurer re-
ported that the penny round-up
had amounted to $15.44. Receipts
forthe year had been $817.32 with
a balance on hand 'of $343.38. •
It was. decided to have the -meet-
ings at 2,30 for the summer months
and to ask for the 'short course in
millinery, It was agreed to have
a pot luck supper with "a committee
composed of Mrs, C. McDonald,
Mrs. R. Gammie, Mrs. E. Gaunt,
Mrs. Frank McQuillin and Mrs. H.
Gaunt in charge of all arrange,
ments for the supper and with Mrs,
E. Barbour, Mrs. McNeill and•
Mrs. W. G. Humphrey to arrange
a program.
Mrs. H. Webb gave a reading,
"Quilting" and Mrs. McDonald,
"The Hope of the Cross". Miss
Rutherford. dealt with current
events in her usual interesting
manner, A pleasant social hour
followed with Mrs .A, Gaunt and
Mrs. W. A. Miller as hostesses,

BELGRAVE—There were nine
tables of euchre at the final party
for the season held each week
since the new year in the commun-
ity centre rooms, Mrs. Jack Mc-
Callum and Mark Armstrong were
the high prize winners. Consolation
prize winners were Barbara Krug
and Joe Dunbar. Joe' Dunbar also
won the novelty prize.
The new officers elected for the
next winter's activities are as fol-
lows: President, Mark Armstrong,
assisted by Mrs, Mark Arm-
strong and Mrs. Jesse Wheeler;
secretary, George Grigg. It was de-
cided at this meeting to give' a
donation of money to the local org-
anizations..
An enjoyable evening was
brought to a (-dose by the serving'
of lunch.

RECEIVES TRIBUTE
BELGRAVE—The Easter meet,
ing of thd Womcn's Missionary,
Society and the Woman's Associa-
tion of Knox United' Church, was
held -on Wednesday afternoon in
the church,
The president, Mrs. Walter Scott,
opened the W.M.S, meeting with a
hymn followed by prayer and a
poem, "May Peace Be Yours".
The treasurer's report was read
by Mrs. George Martin and the
Gift Fund report by Mrs. Jesse.
Wheeler.
An invitation' was received •and
accepted from the Evening Auxil-
iary to meet with them at their
Thankoffering meeting on April 8.
Members were asked to bring
used nylons and scenic Christmas
cards to the next meeting, also
articles for the June bale,
Mrs. James Michie, in. a few well
chosen words,. spoke of Mrs. Jesse
Wheeler's faithful work in the soc-
iety, as secretary; president and
treasurer and Mrs. George Martin
,presented her with a life member-
ship certificate.
The roll call was answered with
a verse of Scripture starting with
the letter A. The roll call for May
will be answered with an item of
interest on Japan. Mrs. C, KrUg,
was In charge of the worship ser-
vice, opening with an Easter poem
and a hymn. The 'Scripture lesson
front Matthew 28:1-9 was read „by
Mrs, Jesse Wheeler followed by a
hymn. The story of 6-ie crucifixion
and the resurrection from john 19
and 20 was read- •by Mrs. Krug,
Mrs. Jesse Wheeler, Mrs. Mark
Armstrong. and Mrs. Fred Cook,
Mrs. Krug closed the service with
prayer.
Mrs. Kenneth Wheeler, president
of the W.A., opened that meeting
with prayer followed by a hyinn.
The theme .was "God's Miracle on
Easter Moining". The minutes
were read by Mrs. Cecil Cliamney,
and the treasurer's report, showing
a balance on hand of $575.67, was
read by Mrs. 'J. M. Coultes. The
roll call Was answered with an
Easter verse. It Was decided to
mirchase an Easter lily for 'the
chiirch for Easter Sunday. Mrs.
George Miehic gave a reading,
"Housecleaning". This meeting
elesed with a. hymn and the Mir,-
pah benediction.
