The, Traffic Safety, Campaign,
which has been in progress in
"Fingbara schools for several weeks

aliMax on Friday evening as stu-
dents of both public and high
schools gathered in the auditorium,
of the latter building to receive
awards,

The Safety Campaign was handl-
ed ;Constable' "Bob" Lewis of
the 'Provincial Police and Wing-
ham's Chief T, W. Platt, in co-
operation with The Advance-Times.
A great deal of time was• spent by
the two officers in making the ne-
cessary .arrangements, „ securing
prizes and speakers for the •presen-
tation. • Colorful certificates were
given to each student who had pass-
ed the examination and was not
in the prize-vvinning class, Four
hundred and twelve of these cer-
tificates, signed by `the mayor of
Wingham and the Attorney General
of Ontario Were won by the schol-
ars, of whom a. large proportion
were -on hand on Friday' evening
to receive them,

ter of ceremonies for the presen-
tation, while those 'on the platform
with him were the two police of••
ficers, W. S. Hall, principal of the
high, school, P. S. Beattie, principal
of the public ;school and Crown
'Attorney H. G. Hays of Goderieh.
The mayor opened the gathering
with• a brief address on the impor-
tance of the safety campaign and•
its significance to both old and
young in this community at a time
when accidents of all kinds are en
the increase.

Euchre Party,
The Majestic Rebekah Lodge
held a euchr'e party in the Odd-
fellows' 'Hall on Friday evening
with 15 tables In play.
Winners of the high prizes were
Mrs. Frank McCormick and Tom
Hericierson. The prize for playing
as a man' went to Miss Jean Wil-
ton. Mrs. Tom Henderson was , the
winner !of the lucky draw prize.
Lunch Was served by the ladies at
the elose of the Party.

his faher, Edward `H. Tripp,' of of

As a young man he saw- service
with the British forces in South
Africa during the Boer War at the
turn of the century.
Surviving, besides his 'wife, are
three Sons, George, of Wingham.
Lloyd, of 'Royal Oak,. Mich., and
Wilbert, of Kingsville; and two
daughters, Mrs, John Snyder and
Mrs. Ross Keele, ' King,sVille.
Funeral service was• held at
Kingsville at two o'clock- on. Mon-
day 'afternoon. ;, .1-
The March meeting of the Wing-
ham town • council was held on
Monday evening when Chief Jim
Carr, David Crothers and Alvin
Seli, of the) fire department, met
,with council to deal with. several
problems which have arisen.
It was decided that a dinner
meeting will be held, to which the
reeve and one representative from
each of the participating muni-
cipalities in the •Wingham rural
fire district will • be. invited, The
municipalities which co-operate in
the plan are Wingham, Turnberry,
Morris, Howick and East Wawa-
nosh. Purpose of the meeting will
'he to discuss problems whicIli affect
the whole fire area.

and asked permission to survey the
town's insurance requirements. It
was pointed out that the town has
recently re-organized its insurance
coverage to obtain the most
economical protection, •hut M.
Scott was assured that he was
welcome to examine the plan in
order to determine ,whether any
further improvements could be
offered.
It was reported to council that
the room in the basement of the
town hall which is used by the card
club is now locked when not in
use. .Action Was taken after a un-
known transient set fire to a card
table cover when the room was un-
occupied 'a few weeks ago,

At United Church,
Rev, C. R. Durrant, of London,
is taking charge -of the services
and congregation of Wingham Un-
ited Church until a new minister is
appointed. Mr. Durrant has been
here since Rev. a J. MacRae left
for his new pastorate in Renfrew. ;.;
The president, Mrs. N. Cameron,
presided at the regular meeting of
tire Ladies' Auxiliary to Wingham
General Hospital, which was held
'in the council chamber. To keep up
with the ever-increasing need, the
cutting and sewing groups were
particularly busy during February;
397 articles Were cut, of Which 290
were made up. Thdsd included adult
gowns and sheets as well as sur-
gical and nursery supplies.
A special project for the month
was the cutting, sewing and mark-
ing of 91 sheets for the nurses'
residence, In addition to this 50
regular sheets and 50 rubber draw
sheets are being made and will be
kept in reserve against emergen-
cies.

circumstances.
The guest speaker for the even-
ing was .1, H. Crawford, who dealt
with the important points in mak-
ing a Will and other legal .matters
connected with the subject.
The raffle Was won by Mrs,
Lloyd Ellaeott and a tidy sum was
realized from an auction of home
baking, A delicious lunch was
served and the meeting was -ad-
journed, The next meeting will be
held at the libme of 'Mrs. Bruce
