Al, though we have increased Our. membership and our share account, we had hoped for a greater in- crease. We have held eleven meet- logS this past year with an aver- age attendance of five. At each chapter meeting ,held in. Clinton this Credit Union was always well represented. We urge all members to make deposits to their share ac- count whenever possible, and as regularly as. possible, as it would help your credit rating and also Geo. Michie, treasurer-manager submitted his report, stating that the Belgrave District Credit Union haS had another successful year. The 'share account was not doubled in 1956, but it has grown slowly and steadily, Membership has risen from '84' to 95 and their average savings per member is $148.49. Thirteen members have let, their account slip below the $5,00. At i the Credit Union League Conven- tion last spring, the .Leagtie dues were raised from 50c to. $1.00 per member. It is sincerely hoped that every member ‘will have enough in his account that the dividend, each Year will pay his $1.00 League dues, The loan demand was quite high in the spring but slackened off in 'the fall so 'that thc last `feW months showed a small _balance in the bank. , „ The death of Clarence Wade was a great shock to the „community and a distinct loss to the supervis- ory 'committee of the Credit Union. Tribute was paid to him for the help which he gave in balancing the books on so many occasions. In his' closing remarks Mr, Michie thanked all who had contributed to the success of 1957 and ex- pressed his hope for continued growth, and prosperity for the Union in 1958. a marked cheque of $300.00 to ac- company tenders, cortraetor to Patsy Logan was in charge of strip and maintain pits, tenders increase your insurance, as your t 4to close April 5th, 12 noon,' business session. ROAD ACCOUNTS—John'Inglis, $60.00; H. C. MacLean, $45.50; The Guelph Mercury recently carried a story from their Queen's Park correspondent, Don O'Ilearn, on the subject of Wingham's John Hanna, M.P.P, for Huron-Bruce. The article went like this: A couple of our 'more colorful personalties have been in the news recently. The first was John Hanna— MPP for Huron-Bruce, known popularly as "the Senator," origi- nator in his career of various movements for the "little people" which got him considerable public- ity if little results; and at present the government's walking delegate to the horse-race set. The intelligence on Mr. Hanna came from Florida, and featured a photograph of him in his official capacity as a member of the Ont- ario Racing Commission deliVering profoundities to an intent audience of dignitaries. A HUMORIST Unfortunately the account didn't report on the profoundities. This is an omission which must be regretted, for they undoubtedly could have provided entertainment for the Senator's colleagues here. Years ago the Huron-Bruce member appointed himself unoffic- ial court jester to his party, Since then his contribution, aside from his personal publicity cam- paign, has been, an annual speech in which he praises everybody from his leader to the page-boys and' in which 'he usually manages to' stir up considerable mirth. • What his Florida pronounce- meat could have been one can't readily conceive, but it is fair to assume they included flattering references to the strength of the local sun, the equality of the ser- vice at whatever holstery the mem- ber is gracing, and a few kind words for the "little people", CLIFF HEFFER NAMED TURNBERRY ASSESSOR The regular meeting of Turn- berry council was held on Monday, February 3rd, in 'the community hail with all members present, the reeve W.
