Pastor tells children what candy canes represent
Greeters at Blyth United Church
on Dec. 20 were Fred and Mary
Howson assisted by Raymond
deBoer and Dane Corneil. The
ushers were Shawn Clark, David
Craig, Corey Shannon and Jeff
Ferguson. Cheryl Cronin led a
sing-song before the service. The
candles were lit by Ross Clark and
Jason Stryker.
Rev. Ramirez opened the service
with the Call to Worship, Prayer of
Approach, Prayer of Confession
and Silent Confession. This was
followed by Assurance of Pardon
and the hymn, O Come All Ye
Faithful.
The Responsive Reading was
taken from Psalm 25: 1-14 To You,
O Lord, I Lift up my Soul. The
anthem was Sing Gloria, sung by
the choir and the Chorale Kids. The
scripture reading from Matthew 1:
18-25 was read by Ashley Howson
and Julie Ritchie. O Little Town of
Bethlehem, was sung by the
congregation. ,
Rev. Ramirez' conversation with
the children was about the candy
cane which relates to the story of
Christmas. The candy cane looks

The scripture reading for Sunday,
Dec. 20, at Brussels Mennonite
Fellowship was Luke 2: 22-28.
Pastor Tom preached on the
general theme, “Do you see what I
see?” Everyone needs to see Jesus,
before a personal relationship with
Him is likely. In Jesus times, men
came to “see” Jesus. Today, man
“sees” Jesus through the lives of
Christians with whom he is
acquainted. Are we presenting the
“Jesus” that He would be proud for
others to “see”, through us?
Manivan and Phailop Larprom
led the congregational singing.
Phailop provided accompaniment
on the guitar. Susannah Seigers
sang a solo accompanied by Christi
Pardys.
Christian Education Hour
continued with the group travelling
to various centres to learn about
different stages in Jesus' life on
earth.
About 15 young adults, from the
college and career segment of the
congregation joined at the church
on Saturday evening for a meal and
fellowship. A lot of “catching up”
was done by individuals who have
been away at school or have joined
the work force in other areas.
On Thursday evening, Dec. 24, a
Christmas Eve candlelight service
will be held at the church at 7 p.m.
On New Year's Eve, a celebration
in the form of a skating party, and
entertainment and fellowship to
follow at the Church will be held.

like the letter “J” which stands for
Jesus and for Joy. In the Christmas
Story “J” is also for Joseph. Rev.
Ramirez then handed out candy
canes to the children.
The two choirs sang Christmas
Hymn.
The sermon was ‘God's Action
and our Reaction’. Rev. Ramirez
said, the Christmas Story is told in
four parts - Conception through
holy spirit, Joseph's dream, relation
of the event or the birth of Jesus
and Joseph awakes to comply.
Listen to what God has to say in
this season of Christmas, he said.
The congregation is asked to
remember in prayers, Doug Brown,
Jack McGee, Harvey Gamiss, Erma
Cook and Hanny Meier who are in
hospital.
Congratulations to Paul and
