Brussels Livestock Report: Cows sell on strong demand at $3 higher Sales at Brussels Livestock for the week ending Dec. 18 were: fed cattle, 562; cows, 296; veal calves, 206; lambs and goats, 218; stockers, 1525; and pigs, light run. There was a very, very, strong trade at Brussels Livestock with fed cattle selling $1 higher. Cows sold on a strong demand at prices $2 - $3 higher. There were 382 steers on offer selling from $98 to $107 to the high of $119. Thirty steers consigned by G. A. Stewart Farms, Ripley, averaging 1165 lbs. sold for an average of $100.64 with sales to $119 purchased by Star Brand Packers. Five steers consigned by Ken Johnston, Bluevale, averaging 1257 lbs. sold for an average of $102.88 with sales to $110.75. Nine steers consigned by Dave Bender, Palmerston, averaging 1231 lbs. sold for an average of $105.99 with sales to $109.30. Twenty-eight steers consigned by Gerald Geisel, Elmira, averaging 1435 lbs. sold for an average of $102.49 with sales to $107. Four steers consigned by Alton O'Neil, Lucan, averaging 1395 lbs. sold for an average of $104.94 with sales to $106.50. One steer consigned by Murray Wilson, Walkerton, weighing 1300 lbs. sold for $106.25. Twenty-six steers consigned by Cunningham Farms, Lucan, averaging 1379 lbs. sold for an average of $103.30 with sales to $107. Eight steers consigned by Doris Eadie, Wingham, averaging 1443 lbs. sold for an average of $102.69 with sales to $105. Thirteen steers consigned by Bill Van Dyke, Lucknow, averaging 1364 lbs. sold for an average of $98.84 with sales to $104.25. Twenty-six steers consigned by Grant Collins, Kincardine, averaging 1355 lbs. sold for an average of $100.77 with sales to $104. Six steers consigned by Terry McCarthy, Dublin, averaging 1318 lbs. sold for an average of $103.37 with sales to $103.90. Ten steers consigned by Bruce Bros., Belgrave, averaging 1291 lbs. sold for an average of $98.98 with sales to $103.60. Eighteen steers consigned by Ken Eadie, Holyrood, averaging 1510 lbs. sold for an average of $102.49 with sales to $103.25. There were 171 heifers on offer selling from $97 to $103 to the high of $123.50. Sixteen heifers consigned by Dave Eadie, Lucknow, averaging 1298 lbs. sold for an average of $103.86 with sales to $120. Twelve heifers consigned by Groenberg Farms, Lucknow, averaging 1135 lbs. sold for an average of $96.75 with sales to $104. Twelve heifers consigned by Bill Holtzworth, Palmerston, averaging 1160 lbs. sold for an average of $95.64 with sales to $103.25. Fourteen heifers consigned by Mux Lea Farms, Woodstock, aveaging 1235 lbs. sold for an average of $100.61 with sales to $101.85. One heifer consigned by Geo., Paul and Mark Pennington, Mildmay, weighing 1330 lbs. sold for $100.75. Two heifers consigned by Noah Weppler, Ayton, averaging 1260 lbs. sold for an average of $100.03 with sales to $100.75. Two heifers con-signed by Neil Weppler, Ayton, averaging 1097 lbs. sold for an average of $98.28 with sales to $100.25. There were 296 cows on offer selling from $57 to $63 to the high , of $72.25. One cow consigned by Wayne Allin, Blyth, weighing 1600 lbs. sold for $72.25. Three cows consigned by Grant Rhody, Chesley, averaging 1070 lbs. sold for an average of $63.96 with sales to $72. There were 206 veal on offer selling from $84.50 to $100 to the high of $115.50. Two veal consigned by John Martin, Lucknow, averaging 570 lbs. sold for an average of $108.81 with sales to $115.50. Four veal consigned by Doug Ward, Monkton, averaging 648 lbs. sold for an average of $97.72 with sales to $108. One veal consigned by John Purvis, Ethel weighing 580 lbs. sold for $107.50. Lambs, under 80 lbs., sold $108 to $235; over 80 lbs., $69 to $108. - Stockers: steers, 400 - 600 lbs., sold $110 to $125; 600 - 700 lbs., $100 to $110; 700 - 800, $95 to $105; 800 and over, $90 to $105. The first game in Milverton on Dec. 14 saw the Brussels team con­ tinue its winning ways as they defeated the host team by two. Brussels leapt ahead early scor­ ing three goals in the first period, while shutting out the Milverton crew. Mike Robinson, Tim Machan and Mike McNichol scored the points, while Mike Bromley and Ryan Finch picked up assists Things became a little tighter for the team in the second when Mil­ verton closed the gap to one point before Bromley nudged in some insurance to end the second. Assists went to Finch and Chris Stevenson. Machan set up Wayne Alexander who drove in the first goal of the third period, followed shortly ther- after by another shot on net by Greg Fritz, assisted by McNichol and Brian Van Steelandt. Milverton added two more before the period ended ending the game at 6-4 for Brussels. On Wednesday, Dec. 16, Brus­ sels suffered their first loss of the regular season in a hard fought home game against Zurich. The only goal of the game was scored by Zurich late in the first period.
