WI enjoys Christmas pot luck
A delicious pot luck dinner
preceded the Christmas meeting of
the Majestic Women's Institute on
Wednesday, Dec. 9 at 12:30 noon.
President Leona Armstrong
welcomed the members and the
many guests. The members tried
out the new sound system they
purchased.
The guest speaker was Miss Amy
Terpstra “Huron County Dairy
Princess.” Amy is in grade 12 at St.
Michael's School in Stratford. She
travels to a lot of schools and talks
about milk and its factors. This was
the second Institute meeting she
has attended. Amy first did a
demonstration for Holiday Egg
Nog which is three cups cold milk,
three eggs, three tbsp, sugar, one
tsp. vanilla and a pinch of nutmeg.
Blend until mixed and enjoy.
The members all had a drink and
it was very good. Then Amy talked
about calcium osteoporosis, lactose
intolerance or milk allergy.
There are 12 reasons why you
should drink milk, she said. One in
four women and one in eight men
suffers from osteoporosis.
Club debates Santa’s beard
As president Mary Lowe is
recovering from surgery,
Friendship Club vice president,
Sarah Stephenson conducted the
Christmas meeting on Wednesday,
Dec. 1 at the Legion auditorium
with 19 present. A delicious and
bountiful pot luck dinner preceded
the meeting.
After the singing of O Canada
and the club's theme song Mrs.
Stephenson read the Christmas
story from Luke 2, which was an
excellent reminder of the reason for
the season.
Lyle Brothers was present and
showed his fine collection of mail
boxes. It was very interesting to see
such a variety of intriguing and
creative styles made locally and in
the U.S.A.
Ethel Brewer then conducted a
debate - “Resolved that Santa
Claus needs a shave and a hair cut”.
All present acted as honourable
judges and the unanimous decision
was in favour of the negative that
“Santa Claus does not need a shave
and a hair cut”.
Euchre followed with the

Merry Christmas to all.
She concluded her speech with
stay active, exercise and befit. She
was thanked and presented with a
gift by Leona Connelly.
Sallianne Patch was then
introduced and her topic was the
proposal of a “Drop in Centre” in
Brussels.
The Opening Ode, Mary Stewart
Collect and the minutes of the last
meeting were read by Jean Fraser.
It was reported that the members
that attended the Achievement
program in Belgrave had an
excellent supper put on by the
members of the six 4H clubs
involved. Jean Fraser attended the
Achievement Night in Clinton and
received a seal for the Institute for
being “A Friend of 4H Donor”. It
was also reported that the Majestic
Women's Institute is the only one
in Huron County that sponsors 4H
Clubs. As of now the Institute
sponsors Brussels, Ethel and
Cranbrook.
The meeting was then turned
over to convenors, Leona Connelly
and Jane DeVries. Jane introduced
Crystal Semple and Ann
Stephenson who spoke on Being
Proud to be a Canadian. Jane
presented the girls with a gift, the
roll call was answered by 25
members with a donation to the
Christmas Bureau for the
Children's Aid. There was also 11

followed by singing of Happy
Birthday to the members with
December birthdays.

Santa Claus asked for Doris
McCall. She was presented with a
lovely quilt done by the members
in a appreciation for letting
members use her rec room for
quilting.

Judge fines post office vandal
One of the young men involved
in the Hallowe'en vandalism at the
Brussels post office had his day in
Wingham's provincial court, Dec.
16, after entering a guilty plea.
Thomas R. Yule, 19, RR1,
Monkton, was not present in the
courtroom, Judge R.G.E. Hunter
was told as he was presently writ
ing college exams. However, his
attorney Mark Tarbush of Listowel
spoke on his behalf.
Mr. Yule, along with Wayne P.
Redman, 19, and two young
offenders were charged with mis
chief under $1,000 after the globe
lights from the post office were
removed and smashed.
Mr. Tarbush told Judge Hunter
that while Mr. Yule was admittedly
present, he had a passive role in the
incident.
Judge Hunter fined Mr. Yule
$100 "to stem the rising tide of
vandalism."
Mr. Redman also appeared
before Judge Hunter, but said he
was confused by the charge as he
had actually not taken part. Judge
Hunter stood the matter down until
Mr. Redman had a chance to speak
to Duty Counsel Tom White after
which he was told to appear in
court Jan. 20 for plea.
