Wawanosh P.S.news Students plan concert Blyth RS. news Treasures found in old toys By Abigail Ramirez Grade one/two has been having fun seeing just how many versions of the "Gingerbread Man" they can find. The children have found five different versions so far. They have been looking for simi larities and differences between the stories. Some of the girls and boys have written new endings to old stories while others have written their own complete version. The children are now looking forward to baking their very own gingerbread man or lady! They sure hope they don't run away on them. By Shawne Walker The grade two/three's have researched old toys for their portion of the Christmas concert. They have antique tractors, a truck that is 60-years-old, an old steam engine and a wagon from 1941. Suzie Smart was a doll received in 1961 and she could talk. They have a very interesting pajama bag that has straw in the head and in the limbs. They also have old puzzles and games made of wood. Two students brought in two lim berjacks. These toys are real treasures. KINDERGARTEN Christmas is fast approaching and everyone in kindergarten eagerly awaits the coming of Santa Claus. Preparations are underway for the Christmas concert, Dec. 15. In class, we have been making paper stockings, a book about Christmas and a Christmas tree that we coloured the correct colours by listening to a tape first. Many more fun Christmas activities are planned until the holidays. Merry Christmas! GRADE THREE Grade three will never be late again as we have been working on telling time in math. We have also made some interesting class graphs. With Christmas fast approaching, we are working on Christmas centres and practising for the concert. We are paired with Mrs. Campbell's grade three/four to do a play called “Everywhere, Christ mas.” This is a journey around the world where we celebrate Christmas in varied and traditional ways. GRADE FOUR/FIVE The grade four/fives have had an interesting time learning about Christmas customs in other lands and about Christmas legends. They've had fun opening the doors on the Advent calendars that different classmates have made. The box for donations to the Salvation Army food drive keeps getting bigger every day. The special Gift Game was a different way to enjoy exchanging presents. It was fun to have more than one present for a short while! The class would like to thank Mrs. Hussey and Mrs. Cucksey foi helping out on our trip to the Goderich Museum. Merry Christmas to you all from grade four/five! GRADE FIVE/SIX In grade five/six we have been working on language arts activities that help us learn about our Christmas traditions that originate in medieval limes. Most of us are very, very glad that we no longer have a boar's head for our Christmas feast. Our other activities center around what a pioneer Christmas celebration was like. It is interesting to see how present holiday traditions reflect the customs of the many countries that settled North America. We enjoyed the Christmas decorations at the Huron County Museum, and of course, the cider and shortbread. We hope that the two mothers who came along enjoyed it too. Happy Holidays from everyone in Room 10! SPECIAL EVENTS We would like to congratulate al! the students who participated in die National Literacy Contest sponsored by the Royal Canadian Legion. We are especially proud of our winners: Justin Howatt, grade six, third, in Junior division poetry; Melina Hussey, grade six, second, in Junior division essay; Michelle Pletch, grade seven, second, Intermediate division poetry; Shannon Cook, grade seven, third, Intermediate division essay; Melissa Atkinson, grade eight, honourable mention, Intermediate division coloured poster; Dean Walker, grade eight, second, Intermediate black and white poster.
