HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Citizen, 1992-11-25, Page 30Cheese Log 8 cā€™ā€™. grated old Cheddar cheese 3 tbsp, pickle relish 3 tbsp, green pepper chopped 3 tbsp, green onion 3 tbsp, pimento 1 hard boiled egg 3 olives, chopped 1/2 cup unsalted crackers, crushed 1/3 cup mayonnaise Combine all ingredients and form into a log or ball. Can be kept in freezer for approx. 3 months. Delicious on crackers, melba toast, etc. - Debra Stryker, Blyth. Crunchy Appetizer Balls 2 cups mashed potatoes 2 cups finely chopped ham 1 cup shredded swiss cheese 1/2 cup salad dressing 1/4 cup finely diced onion 2 eggs, well beaten 1 tsp. prepared mustard 1/2 tsp. salt 1/4 tsp. pepper 3 1/2 cup crushed corn flakes Combine all ingredients except corn flakes. Shape into 1" balls, roll in corn flakes. Place on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350°F for 30 min. Makes about 6 dozen. To make ahead and freeze. - Marie Parks, Goderich. Crab Dip 1 can crab meat, drained and rinsed 1/4 cup mayonnaise garlic salt to taste 8 oz. cream cheese 1/4 tsp. dry mustard Mix together. Bake in onion soup pot or small casserole dish at 350°F. for 1/2 hour. - Mrs. Arnold Dawson, Wingham. Cheese Krispies 1/2 lb. margarine, very soft 1/2 lb. extra strong cheese, grated into margarine dash of salt 1/2 tsp. cayenne pepper 2 cups rice krispies 2 cups sifted flour Mix well. Page 6 Zesty Cheese Fondu Make as a usual white sauce: 4 tbsp, butter 3 tbsp, flour 1/4 tsp. salt 1/4 tsp. paprika 2 cups milk 1 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce 2 cups grated sharp Cheddar crumbled bacon - about 8-10 slices Serve in fondue pot. Dip in with: cubed loaf of French bread pkg. smoked sausages, (boiled) and sliced into bite-sized pieces olives Nice with a cranberry/7-up punch. A family favourite for Christmas Eve. Spread cream cheese mixture on top. Add a layer of grated cheese, chopped peppers, chopped green onions and shred­ ded lettuce. Top with finely chopped tomato when ready to serve. This can be made a day ahead except tomatoes. Serve with taco chips. - Annie Shantz, Ayton. Hamburger Tarts 1 lb. hamburger 16-18 bread slices 1 can cream mushroom soup 1/4 cup chopped onions 1/2 cup grated cheese 1/2 cup bread crumbs dash of garlic salt dry mustard Cut off the bread crusts, butter each slice. Put buttered side down in muffins tins. Fill and bake at 350°F. for 40 min. or until done. - Annie Shantz, Ayton.
