Blowing cold snow
Brian Potter of RR 1, Belgrave is all set for winter now that
he won this Sno-Power snow blower during a recent
United Co-operative of Ontario draw. The draw was
province-wide but this time, a local won. Presenting Mr.
Potter with his snowblower is Jane Van Camp, manager of
the Belgrave Co-op.

Mitchells have
far-away guests
Lloyd and Merle Cuthill of
Unity, Sask, are visiting with
Emerson and Phyllis Mitchell and
other relatives in the area.
Gordon and Mary Sanders, Royal
Oak, Mich, and Allan and Alice
Searle of Walton, visited on Friday
with Ray and Margery Huether at
their home in Seaforth.
Health advice given to WI
Marlene Roberton of Seaforth,
who works for Huron County
Health Unit, was guest speaker at
the November meeting of the
Walton Women's Institute on
Wednesday evening, Nov. 18.
Marion Godkin, convenor for
Family and Consumer Affairs,
introduced Marlene, who spoke on
Women’s Health Issues. She gave
advice about physical concerns
women should be aware of in their
daily lives and told members what
information they should want from

Clara Perrie
has birthday
On Oct. 25, family members
Clara Perrie of RR 3, Brussels,
gathered at Tim's Family
Restaurant in Blyth to celebrate the
occasion. The group enjoyed the
Sunday smorgasbord which was
followed by a birthday cake at
Jeanne and Doug Kirkby's
residence in Walton.

brother Allan McCall and Betty,

banquet at the noon luncheon. The
noon luncheon on Dec. 16 will be
hot turkey.
Village extends sympathy
Mr. and Mrs. John Galbraith,
Michael and Kelly of Whitby
visited over the weekend with her
mother, Olive Campbell and other
Belgrave relatives.
Belgrave neighbours and friends
express their deepest sympathy to
Mr. and Mrs. George Carter and
family, and Mrs. Alba Mundell and
family of Wingham whose mother,
Mrs. Margaret Carter, passed away
at the Braemore Nursing Home,
Wingham. She was in her 106 year.

The November meeting of the
Belgrave Women's Institute was
held at the hall on Nov. 18 opening
with the Institute Ode, Mary
Stewart Collect and O Canada. The
president, Audrey Fenton,
welcomed the members and many
visitors and turned the meeting
over to Mary Hunter, the program
convenor for International Affairs.
The guest speaker was Mrs. Ene
McGregor, of Wingham who spoke
about her native land of Estonia.
Mrs. McGregor wore a woolen
skirt and woven belt in the colours
of her province and showed two
bonnets which were made of silk,
indicating that her husband is a
man of substance.
Estonia had been under Soviet
rule from 1944-1991. The country
is showing the signs of devastation
from the years of Communist rule
and will take many years to be
restored. Mrs. MacGregor talked of
the poverty of the people, the high
cost of goods, the lack of
equipment in hospitals, schools and
farms. After answering questions
from the audience, Mary gave her a
thank you gift of appreciation.
Lila sang “Where Have all the
Flowers Gone?” and Mary gave her
a thank you gift. Lunch was served
Community club
hosts euchre party
On Friday, Nov. 20 the Belgrave
Community Club hosted a dessert
euchre and lost heir party for the
Blyth Swinging Seniors.
After enjoying tasty desserts, a
short program was enjoyed. Mrs.
Gladys Van Camp accompanied the
group for a sing-song of O Canada
and several Christmas carols. Mrs.
Olive Bolt entertained with two
favourite readings.
A comedy skit entitled “No
Name Brand” was performed by
Mrs. Nelva Scott, Mrs. Jean Cook
and Mrs. Donna Shaw. Following
the program euchre and lost heir
were played. The euchre winners
were: high, Alberta Stevens and
Bert Johnston; second high, Lenora
Davidson, Helen Martin; low,
Mabel Wheeler and Lewis
Stonehouse.
Lost Heir prize winners were:
high, Jean Snell and Graeme
McDowell; second high, Phyllis
Boak and Jim McCall; low, Feme
McDowell and Edythe Howatt.
16 tables of
euchre in play
Sixteen tables of euchre were in
play at the weekly euchre which
was held in the W.I. Hall, Belgrave,
Wednesday, Nov. 18.
Winners were: high lady, Mrs.
Helen Martin; low lady, Mrs. Irene
Smyth; lone hands, lady, Mrs.
Marie Merkley; closest to 50 on
card, Mrs. Gordon Bosman; high
man, Gordon Louttit; low man,
mrs. Ruby Hanna (playing as a
man); lone hands, man, Tom
Pfeiffer and closest to 50 on card,
Mrs. Jack Taylor ( playing as a
man).

Maurice Hallahan and family in the
sudden passing of their son, Peter
Hallahan.
Visitors on the weekend with Mr.
and Mrs. Robert Grasby were Mr.
and Mrs. Gary Leitch, Jeff and
friend, Jenn Shelton of Waterdown;
Mr. and Mrs. George Johnston,
Tara and Erin of Ilderton and Mrs.
Laura Johnston.
-Mrs. Sybil Straker has just
returned from a trip to Glencoe
where she spent several days
visiting with her son, Douglas and
by Dianna Robinson and Ruth
Gordon.
The roll call, “My furthest
journey from home” was answered
by 18 members and several visitors.
The minutes of the previous
meeting and the financial report
was given by Mrs. Gladys Van
Camp.
It was decided to give a donation
to the Children's Aid, the Seniors'
Day Centre of Wingham and the
Children's Miracle Network.

Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Stonehouse
visited with his sister, Mrs. Agnes
Walker of Maple Grove Lodge,
Goderich on Saturday afternoon.
The U.C.O. of Ontario held a
province-wide contest on a draw
for a snowblower. The draw was
held Monday, Nov. 16 at the head
office in Toronto. Brian Potter of
RR 1, Belgrave, was the lucky
winner. Congratulations Brian.
A new 100 cup coffee percolator
will be purchased for use in the
hall.
Plans were made to cater to the
Daer family and Edgar family
Christmas gatherings.
A card was signed by everyone
to send to Mary Coultes who is
recovering from surgery.
The collection and coins for
friendship were gathered and the
meeting closed by singing God
Save the Queen.
