In a strong offensive effort, the
Brussels Houseleague Atoms over
powered the visiting Goderich II
team to a 10-1 victory in WOAA
action on Nov. 20.
Brussels struck early in the first
when Trevor Wilson and Darrell
Dalton set up a speedy Tyler Bragg
for the goal. Excellent defense
from the visiting goalie held the
home team down until Joel
Keftington nudged it past with 3:30
left in the period.
Brussels really took control of
the game in the second, shutting
out the visitors again while adding
four more goals to their score.
Shawn Engel hit first off a play by
Joshua Gropp, which was quickly
followed by another goal from
Carla Hunt, assisted by Ryan
Smith. Trevor Wilson shot in the
third goal on a breakaway then with
18 seconds remaining Joel Kelling-

Less than two minutes later

Brussels Midgets capture
Zurich consolation trophy
Brussels Midgets sailed to a 10-4
victory over a visiting Milverton on
Nov. 18 in WOAA hockey action.
In a tremendous offensive effort,
Brussels nudged three goals past
the Milverton goalie before the vis
itors could respond. The first goal
was scored by Pete Gusso off Mark
Robinson, then just one minute
later Ryan Finch added some insur
ance. The third goal came halfway
through the period off the stick of
Brent Whitmore. Milverton
answered back seconds later, then
cut the lead with another shot at
8:50. Brussels responded less than
two minutes later when Wayne
Alexander shot one into the Milver
ton net.
Alexander came back a minute
later off a play by Mike McNichol
for the final goal of the first period,
giving Brussels a 5-2 lead.
Play in the second period seemed
a little less one-sided with Brussels
getting two and Milverton one.
Finch and Tim Machan combined
to start things off for the home
team. Milverton scored the second
goal of the period which was
answered by McNichol off a play
by Alexander.
Finch was hot in the third scoring
the first two home goals of the peri
od off Machan. Milverton managed
to sneak one past between the
Finch/Machan plays. The final goal
came with 6:54 remaining, after
Machan and Randy Beuermann set
up Whitmore for his second goal of
the game.
Following their mid-week win,
the Brussels Midgets competed in
the Zurich Midget Hockey Tourna
ment and won the consolation
round.
A first-game loss in the tourna
ment against Ilderton put them in
the consolation round. The Midgets
held their own against Ilderton in
the first inning with goals by Ryan
Finch, assisted by Wayne Alexan
der and Tim Machan, assisted by
Finch.
However by the third, they were
well behind and only managed to
add one goal to their score. It was
scored by Mike Bromley, assisted
by Brent Whitmore and Chris
Stevenson. Final score was 5-3 for
Ilderton.
Brussels rallied back in their sec
ond game to beat Listowel 7-2.
Brussels goal scorers were: Chris
Stevenson; Finch, assisted by
Machan; Mark Robinson, assisted
by Bromley and Brett Clarkson;
Pete Gusso; Wayne Alexander
assisted by Machan; Finch with an
assist by Machan; and Bromley.
This win advanced the team to
the consolation round final where
things began looking bad for the
team as their opposition from
Mount Bridges opened up a three
goal lead in the first five minutes.
The scare prompted an immedi
ate retaliation as Brussels shut
down the Mt. Forest scoring
machine and responded with four
goals of their own by Bromley,
assisted by Clarkson; Wayne
Alexander, assisted by Brad Beuer
mann and Finch; Finch assisted by
Machan and Beuermann assisted by
Robinson and Bromley.
Both teams added two more in
the second. Brussels' were lobbed
by Robinson, assisted by Bromley
and Mike McNichol and Machan,
assisted by Chris Stevenson and
Alexander.
Finally, the Midgets let loose in
the third period with a whopping
five-goal spree led by Bromley.
Alexander followed with some help
from Finch and Beuermann. Clean
ing up was Bromley, who was
assisted by Clarkson and Robinson
for his first goal and Robinson with
his second. He scored solo with his
last.
The entire team received rib
boned medallions and Zurich
pucks.
