Santa Claus coming to town
Things are gearing up for Santa's
annual visit to Brussels on Dec. 5
as guest of honour for the Santa
Claus Parade.
This year's parade will begin at
4:30 to accommodate local mer
chants and requests from some par
ticipants with lights on their floats.
The parade route begins at Agro
Mart at the north edge of the vil
lage and will wend its way south
down Tumberry St. to the Anglican
Church where it will turn east to
the park.
Following the parade, Santa will
be at the fire hall to meet the
youngsters and hand out bags of
candy.
The theme for this year's parade
is to commemorate Brussels 120th
anniversary and Canada's 125th.
Judging for the floats will take
place prior to the parade at 4 at the
AgroMart.
Last year there were about 30
entries in the parade, one of the
most successful turnouts ever. Con
firmations have been received from
the Brussels Legion Pipe Band,
Wingham Canadettes, F.E. Madill
Secondary School band and the
Atwood Twirlettes.
Anyone wishing to be involved
can contact Wayne Todd at 887-
6682 or Alan and Shirley Baker at
887-6355.
In addition to the parade there
will also be a contest for the best
decorated business and home in the
village. Judging for this will be
done by mid-December and win
ners will be presented with a
plaque. Last year's winners were
Greg and Nancy Ducharme for the
best decorated home and Murray
Lowe, who took first place for the
businesses.
