Ready to eat Legion darters win Everyone was ready to enjoy some delicious home cooking when they showed up for the annual Brussels United Church Women's pre-Christmas Bake Sale and Luncheon on Thursday, Nov. 19. By Sandra Josling On Saturday, Nov. 14, Brussels Legion members competed in the Zone C-l dart singles and doubles. Qualifying at this level was Bob Richardson (first) and Kathrine Haycock (third) in the singles. In doubles, Eric Ross and Bob Richardson teamed up for a third place finish. Good luck to each in the next level of competition. In the Fraternal sports program a team from the Brussels Branch competed in cribbage and finished fourth. Team members included Lloyd Glanville, Willis Knight, Ernie Back and Neil Adams. The next event in the fraternal program is euchre at Hensail Branch. Interested branch affiliates should contact the branch or Ernie Back before Nov. 27. On Saturday, Nov. 28 a bus group from the Hanover Branch will be visiting the Branch. They plan to arrive at approximately 2:00 p.m. The last chance to be an Early Bird is Nov. 30. Results from the Tuesday night mixed darts are as follows: Deb Cann, Dave Adams first and Alex Henderson, Gord Jacklin and Rick Murray, second. High scores for the ladies was Tara Pipe with 116 and Alex Henderson for the men with 134. Darts are held every Tuesday night at 8:30 p.m. Euchre night is Wednesday, Nov. 25. Carol's Dutch Chocolate Treats and Alicia's Laces and Trims Invite you to an OPEN HOUSE on TUESDAY, DECEMBER 1st from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Boneschansker's R.R. 1, Ethel 887-6870 2 1/2 miles north and 1 1/4 miles east of Brussels Santa Claus coming to town Things are gearing up for Santa's annual visit to Brussels on Dec. 5 as guest of honour for the Santa Claus Parade. This year's parade will begin at 4:30 to accommodate local mer­ chants and requests from some par­ ticipants with lights on their floats. The parade route begins at Agro­ Mart at the north edge of the vil­ lage and will wend its way south down Tumberry St. to the Anglican Church where it will turn east to the park. Following the parade, Santa will be at the fire hall to meet the youngsters and hand out bags of candy. The theme for this year's parade is to commemorate Brussels 120th anniversary and Canada's 125th. Judging for the floats will take place prior to the parade at 4 at the AgroMart. Last year there were about 30 entries in the parade, one of the most successful turnouts ever. Con­ firmations have been received from the Brussels Legion Pipe Band, Wingham Canadettes, F.E. Madill Secondary School band and the Atwood Twirlettes. Anyone wishing to be involved can contact Wayne Todd at 887- 6682 or Alan and Shirley Baker at 887-6355. In addition to the parade there will also be a contest for the best decorated business and home in the village. Judging for this will be done by mid-December and win­ ners will be presented with a plaque. Last year's winners were Greg and Nancy Ducharme for the best decorated home and Murray Lowe, who took first place for the businesses. NOTICE BRUSSELS RESIDENTS ALL NIGHT STREET PARKING Due to municipal snow removal operations, notice is hereby given that the parking of cars on village streets during the winter months (December 1 - April 1) is strictly prohibited. All vehicles must be removed from village streets and from roadways of the municipality between the hours of 2 a.m. and 7 a.m. Violators will be prosecuted or will be required to bear the cost of having their vehicle towed away. The owner of any such parked vehicle will be liable for any damage to the said vehicle or to snow plow equipment. Donna M. Ray Hemingway, Vancouver, visited with his mother Eleanor Hemingway and family recently. Eleanor then went to Boissevain, Man. to visit with her son, Don and his wife Bernice and family and to meet her great-granddaughter, Monica for the first time. She had a very pleasant holiday. Word was received on Nov. 8 from Picton by the Knight and Hemingway families of the death of Olive (McCosh) Knight, wife of Hector Knight. Many nieces and nephews attended the funeral service in Picton on Nov. 10 of their favourite aunt, who had lived for a time in Cranbrook.
