REMEMBRANCE DAY
By Curtis Mutter
On Nov. 11, Brussels Public
School held a Remembrance Day
assembly in the gym. The service
began at 1:00 p.m. with the school
band playing "Hymn Tune" while
the guests and students entered the
gym. The cadets then brought in
the flags. "O Canada" was sung
and the Lord's Prayer was read.
The ceremony consisted of
songs, poems and readings from the
junior and senior classes.
Most were stirred by the sound of
the bag pipes. The ceremony was
made better through the help of the
Brussels Legion.

Report Cards will be coming this
Friday. All children are trying to
be good in front of their teachers.
Teachers are staying up late
figuring out marks. The students
have more tests, projects, quizzes
and assignments than there is time
to do!
The Brussels Santa Claus parade
committee, chaired by Mr. Todd,
has invited children from grades
three, five and seven to participate
in a poster contest activity, to
advertise the parade. Some other
classes will be doing this activity as
well. The prizes are as follows:
first, $15, second, $10, and third,
$5.00. The theme this year for the
Santa Claus parade is "Let’s
Celebrate Brussels 120th/Canada’s
125"!
The date of the parade is
Saturday, Dec. 5. The time is 4:30
p.m. and the place is Brussels!
Grade seven/eight students have
recently completed history research
studies on a variety of topics
including the history of barbering,
hats, telescopes, baseball, coiffures,

Some of the research material was

by Zoey Onn, Abigail Ramirez,
Shawna Walker and
Jennifer Brigham
GRADE ONE
Grade one is learning about
“Getting ready for Winter”. They
are making a play on animals based
on what they learned at the East
Wawanosh Conservation Area.
They also planted tulip bulbs in
individual pots and stored them in a
cold place for the winter.
GRADE TWO/THREE
Mrs. Little's grade two/three class
is experimenting the many ways
that their pencils can be used to
sketch.
They tried thin lines, thick lines,
pencil leads on the side and on the
tip. They also sketched the other
half of an owl.
Later in the library, they worked
on bird sketchings.
The entire class is thrilled with
the results.
REMEMBRANCE DAY
ASSEMBLY
On Nov. 11 at Blyth Public
School a Remembrance Day
assembly was held.
War veterans from the Legion
came and said a few words. The
assembly was well taken and some
moms and dads came as well. The
principal was in charge of the
assembly. The morning included
some vocal songs and some
readings which made everyone
think a little more about what
Remembrance Dav means to them.
KINDERGARTEN
Kindergartens are working on a
unit about Fall. They will make a
book about Fall, paint a picture

Letters
Principal
says thanks
THE EDITOR,
Through your paper I wish to
convey publicly, the thanks of
students and staff at Brussels
Public School for the generous
contributions Brussels Lions Club
members and friends have made to
improve the Brussels Public School
grounds during the past summer.
This extension to the work initiated
by the Brussels Optimists last year
has broadened the opportunities for
use of the area both during school
hours and by the public at other
times.
The leadership provided by both
these organizations, as well as the
Majestic Women's Institute and the
Royal Canadian Legion, in
promoting education in the
Brussels community is a fine model
for the youth - citizens of the
future.
Thank you again for the
opportunity to comment through
your column.

sell cake
The Optimist Club of Blyth and
District (Inc.) is embarking on a
festive fundraiser. In place of the
Toy Sale, which has been
organized for the past two years,
the Club will be selling Christmas
fruit cake. The cakes made by a
Canadian bakery are full of fresh
fruit - cherries, raisins, pineapple
and their juices. Each cake weighs
two pounds and is pre-sliced. The
item is self wrapped and displayed
in a decorative box. There will be a
door to door campaign, in addition
to selling the cakes in some local
businesses. Funds raised will be
used in the Blyth community.
