HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Citizen, 1992-11-18, Page 10There was a flurry of money and baked goods changing hands at the Bazaar, Bake Sale and Tea held at Belgrave Women's Institute Hall on Friday. The event was held by Anglican Church Women such as Gladys Van Camp seen here selling baked goods to Isabel Scanlon (centre) of Londesboro and Mary Peacock of Bluevale. 4-H club learns to cook with eggs The first chicken and egg club was held September 20. Everybody was excited. The leaders were Mrs. Marilyn Freiburger, Mrs. Isabel Campbell and Mrs. Vicki Piluke. This week they cooked a pumpkin loaf, chicken cordon bleu and corn dogs. The second meeting was Oct. 14. After saying the 4-H Pledge they started on what they would make for supper. That night there was roast chicken with savoury dressing, chicken noodle soup, crepes filled with luscious lemon dessert filling. To end the meeting they watched two movies. 4H members did some egg judging on four categories. They were A. B. C. D. Members also did some catching up in their books. For roll call they were asked their favourite food using chicken or eggs. For supper they cooked cream of chicken soup, plain chicken and Alaska baked bounty. At the Oct. 21 meeting they were halfway through the sixth meeting and then into reading their books. They went into groups and then were told what recipe to make. The recipes were Canadian Country Pie, Fruit Salad with Honey Lime Dressing, Parmesan Chicken Fingers with Sweet and Sour Nepal missionaries speak at Knox Knox United Church, Belgrave and Calvin-Brick held a joint service in Belgrave on Sunday. They had a guest speakers Norman and Maija Holbrook who have served for 10 years as missionaries in Nepal. Norman spoke to the children and Maija gave the sermon. The Calvin-Brick children's choir sang two delightful numbers accompanied by Mrs. Jessie McGee. Mrs. McGee on the piano and Mrs. Elizabeth Procter on the organ provided music for the Sauce. The meeting ended with a run outdoors. The Oct. 28 meeting was close to Achievement night. They were busy trying to finish reading their books and cooking supper each week. Meetings are every Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. They take place at Marilyn Freiburger's. service. John McIntosh and daughter, Heather, welcomed people as they.. arrived and the offering was received by Arnold Spivey and Jack Taylor. Following the service, the congregation enjoyed a social time over lunch and Mr. and Mrs. Holbrook showed pictures and told of their work in Nepal. For the large congregation this service was one of inspiration and fellowship. Congratulations to Justin and Jennifer Black who placed third UCW bible study based on Matthew The November meeting of the Afternoon Unit of the U.C.W. was held in the school room of the church with Mrs. Audrey Fenton in charge. There were 12 present. The December meeting is to be arranged by the following committee: Mrs. Edith Vincent, Mrs. Kay Roberts and Mrs. Audrey Fenton. After singing the first three verses of “O Valiant Hearts”, Mrs. Ida Procter read 7 Galations 5: 13- 26 and John 14: 1-6, 18, 19, 27 and Mrs. Helen Martin gave for meditations, Peace, Perfect, Peace and Why wear a poppy? Mrs. Fenton read “In Handers Fields”. Mrs. Kay Roberts had the bible study based on Matthew 7: 16-20. Be on your guard against false prophets. They come to you looking like sheep on the outside. The hymn “Abide with Me” was sung and Mrs. Mary Hunter had the Mission Study and brought forth much discussion on the changing roll of women today. The meeting closed with the Lord's Prayer. Mrs. Sybil Straker attended the Remembrance Day Service at the Wingham Legion where she presented a wreath in memory of her husband Tony Straker, who served in the R.A.F. in World War n. Visiting with Mrs. Elizabeth Procter of Belgrave on Tuesday, Nov. 10 were Miss Vietta Martin of Elmira and three of her friends from Kitchener. Mrs. Philip Stopforth and little Alexandria of Oakville visited with her mother Mrs. Elizabeth Procter on Friday. Also visiting at the same home were Mrs. Peggy Stopforth of Mersey, Eng. All attended the Anglican Church bake sale held in the W.I. Hall on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Makas and Alicia of London spent the weekend with Mrs. Mabel Wheeler. A bus trip to the Royal Winter Fair, Toronto on Thursday, Nov. 12 was sponsored by the Belgrave Community Club. Forty-two enjoyed the outing.
