Gurney's The Dining Room. Opening Oct. 30, this comedic homage to a vanishing way of life stars William Hutt, Patricia Collins, Peter Hutt, Brigitte Robinson, Jonathan Whittaker and Jan Alexandra Smith. Directed by Martha Henry, The Dining Room is designed by Astrid Janson, and lit by John Munro. Set in the dining room of a traditional old home, The Dining Room presents a mosaic of inter related scenes - some funny, some touching - which create a moving portrait of the vanishing upper middle-class way of life. The six actors change roles, personalities and ages as they portray a wide variety of characters, from little boys to stern grandfathers, and from giggling teenage girls to Irish housemaids. They take us through 50 years of excruciating family memories, lived by the people whose lives were changed in that dining room. Written by the illustrious author of Love Letters and The Cocktail Hour, The Dining Room is a lush theatrical experience of exceptional range, compassionate humour and abundant humanity.
