Rev. Ramirez baptizes children at service
On Sunday, Oct. 18, Cliff and
Bev Snell greeted everyone as they
came to Blyth United Church.
Ushering people to their seats were
Faye and Erin Bolger and Linda
and Tyler Wilson. Rev. Ramirez
opened the service with the Call to
Worship, Prayer of Invocation and
Prayer of Confession followed by
the Silent Confession and
Assurance of Pardon. Hymn 509

that as village administrator, she is
the person to whom Mr. Rinn
should answer with Reeve Lee, as
head of council, next. Councillor
Lawrie then reminded council that
Mrs. Grubb is a village employee
and if there is anything to hash out
amongst themselves it should be
done without her input.
Councillor Shirley Fyfe then
asked why Councillors Lawrie and
Scrimgeour felt the change wasn't a
good idea. "I made the motion
because I believe there is so much
going on with roads and drains it
needs the full council's considera
tion," she told them.
Councillor Scrimgeour said he
felt Mr. Rinn could do his job bet
ter if the committee he answers to
is narrowed down.
"So why not let him just get on
with his job and he can report back
to full-council?" asked Reeve Lee.

It was noted that the county will be
responsible for protection of the
property against hazardous waste
and for ensuring the lot is left as
found.
Council approved the upgrading
of lighting on the interior and exte
rior of the Lucknow Health Centre.

The Sacrament of Baptism was
performed. Children baptized were:
Jason Michael, son of James and
Karen Hallahan; Dean Mathew, son
of Glen and Linda Linner; Ryan
William, son of Stephen and Kim
Tolton; and Laura Katherine Anne,
Councillor Scrimgeour then
expressed his concern that the grant
money hasn't always been spent to
the best advantage, saying if the
village is only getting 25 cents on
the grant dollar instead of 50 cents,
then maybe a project shouldn't be
started.
"So you're saying that if there
isn't 50 percent subsidy for road s
maintenance we shouldn't do it?"
asked Mrs. Grubb.
"Maybe," Councillor Scrimgeour
responded.
When asked again about his pref
erence for road committee, Mr.
Rinn said that full council had
worked well in the past. "There
have been moments, but we've
always managed to work them
out," he told council, before leaving
the meeting.
Councillor Sparling suggested at
this time that it might be a good
idea for councillors to write down
istry of Natural Resources regard
ing the work needed to complete
the requirements of the work per
mit issued for the construction of
the concrete culvert at Lot 17,
Cone. 4/5. The road superintendent
will be instructed to have the
requirements met in 1993.

The scripture was taken from
Habakkuk 1: 1-3 and 2: 1-4. The
congregation then sang ‘Will your
Anchor Hold’. For the children's
time Rev. Ramirez spoke to the
children about being patient. Try
waiting rather than having
something right now. The children
went to their class with Candice
for the next meeting what they
hope to accomplish as individuals
this term.
"I agree 100 percent," said Coun
cillor Lawrie. "We have to start
working together and watching
what is happening with the budget.
I won't sit at a meeting and spend
any more money without knowing
what there is to spend.
Mrs. Grubb said when she started
her job as Blyth clerk she did pro
vide a financial statement but coun
cil at that time said they didn't want
it.
"I think what we're hearing
though, Helen," said Councillor
Sparling, "is that while that council
didn't want one this council does.

The choir sang a beautiful hymn
titled ‘Take it to the Lord in
Prayer’. Endure crises by trusting
in God, was the sermon topic. In
our time of instant coffee, tea and
even instant soup we should have
patience. Although, it is our nature
to want things done immediately
we should try to be patient. Rev.

That's the only way to come up
with a strategy. There is no criti

staff we have, there shouldn't be a
problem."
This remark prompted Councillor
Lawrie to say he had been visiting
other municipalities and felt that
the Blyth office was over-staffed
by comparison. "I think this is
something we will have to look at."
"We have got to start looking at
how we can cut the fat off," agreed
Councillor Scrimgeour.
