B elgraveThe news from UCW thankful for abundance Compiled by Helen Stonehouse Phone 887-9487 Vincents spend Thanksgiving with family in New Brunswick Mr. and Mrs. Harold Vincent returned home, Wednesday, Oct. 14 after spending Thanksgiving week with their son and daughter- in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Vincent and their family, Patrick, Angela and Aaron of Prosser Brook, N.B. Visiting Mrs. Sybil Straker this past weekend were her daughter, Gail Aylestock, Toronto; Graham Alyestock, City of York; son, Douglas Aylestock and his wife Denise, and their children Joanna, Cara, Priscilla, Erica, Angela and Jessica. Also visiting were the children's aunt and uncle, Priscilla and Colin Darrell of Scarborough and grandparents, Lloyd and Viola, Aylestock of Scarborough. Dr. Ronald Taylor returned to his home this past week to St. John's, Nfld. after visiting with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Taylor and other relatives. Mrs. Florence Me Arter, entertained guests at her home on Sunday, Oct. 18 in honour of her sister Miss Annie Cook's birthday which was on Friday, Oct. 16. On Sunday, at St. John's Anglican Church, Brussels, Darryl Mayberry of Londesboro was confirmed along with others. Present at the service were his grandmothers, Mrs. Ruby Hanna and Mrs. Elizabeth Procter, Belgrave; parents, and sister Mr. and Mrs. Larry Mayberry and Kimberly of Londesboro; uncles, aunts and cousins, Mrs. Howard Zettler and family of RR 4, Walkerton and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Procter and Kevin, RR 5, Brussels and Karen of London. Following the service, all enjoyed a dinner in the Sunday School room of the Church. Mrs. Philip Stopforth and Alexandrea of Oakville visited with her mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Procter, Belgrave, on Thursday, Oct. 8. Mrs. Helen Martin spent a few days last week with her sister, Mrs. Anna Armstrong of Thorndale. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Procter, RR Julie Terpstra 4-H club pres. The members of the 4-H “Great Chicken and Egg Project” met at the home of Mrs. Rush. The first meeting took place on Saturday, Oct. 3. The meeting started with the 4-H pledge, then nominations were held for office members. They were elected as follows: pres., Julie Terpstra; vice-pres., Wanda Martin; treas., Angela Terpstra; sec., Heather Blake and Press Reporter, Cynthia DeWit. Members watched a video called “The Extraordinary Egg”, which told how eggs get fromm the bam to the store. VON starts 5, Brussels held Thanksgiving at their home Sunday, Oct. 11. Thirty - three guests were present from Ottawa, Kitchener, Blyth, Londesboro and Belgrave. All enjoyed a delicious turkey dinner. Visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Ross Anderson for the Thanksgiving weekend were Mr. and Mrs. Rob Roy, Christina and Emily of Peterborough; Mr. and Mrs. Doug Cousins, Guelph; Mr. and Mrs. Rick Ball, Alicia and Matthew, Hanover and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Anderson, Daniel and Sarah of Goderich. The North Huron Regional Rally was held Tuesday, Oct. 13 in Knox United Church, Belgrave hosted by Calvin-Brick U.C.W. Sixty-five women from the region attended. Guest speaker was Rev. Cheryl - Ann Stadelbouer-Sampa of Egmondville. Mrs. Laura Johnston spent Thanksgiving weekend with Mr. and Mrs. George Johnston, Tara and Erin of Ingersoll. The Afternoon Unit of the U.C.W. met Oct. 12 with an attendance of eight. Mrs. Audrey Fenton was in charge and opened with prayer following with the minutes of the last meeting. Mrs. Ada Taylor had the worship service, “It is a time of Shoot winners The Belgrave Community Club held a Shoot Party on Friday afternoon, Oct. 16 at 1:30 p.m. in the Belgrave Community Centre. There were seven tables in play. Winners were: high lady, Mrs. Edith Coultes; high man, George Inglis; low lady, Mrs. Mae Loutitt; low man, Bob Grasby and most shoots, Mrs. Jack Taylor and Gordon Loutitt. The next Shoot party will be Oct. 30. Thanksgiving”. This is the harvest of the ages that we have inherited from our generations of our forebearers who knew the source of their strength and thanked God. The hymn “We Plough the Fields and Scatter” followed with the reading of Psalm 145: 9-21. The meditation was the “Open Hand of God”. The Lord is good to all; Thou opened Thine hand and satisfied the desire of every living thing. It is the natural time for a national expression of Thanks­ giving to God who has so bountifully blessed the land with such abundance. This is joined with the Christian custom setting apart a CAC PROMOTIONS Euchre results Ten tables were in play at the weekly euchre which commenced in the W.I. hall, Belgrave at 8 p.m. Winners were: high lady, Mrs. Jim Coultes; second high lady, Mrs. Robert Grasby; low lady, Mrs. Helen Martin; most lone hands, Mrs. Gordon Bosman; high man, Gordon Bosman; second high man, Mrs. Ivy Cloakey (playing as a man); low man, Lloyd Appleby and most lone hands, Garner Nicholson. new program The Perth-Huron branch of the Victorian Order of Nurses (VON) is developing a palliative care vol­ unteer visiting program in southern Huron County. The announcement was made at the branch’s first fall board meeting held at the Hensail office. It was also announced the VON office has moved to the second floor of the Stratford Railway sta­ tion at 101 Shakespeare Street special Sunday at which an acknowledgement is made of the goodness of all good. In this Psalm of Thanksgiving the Providence of God is presented in its far-reaching and overflowing kindness to all his creatures. A hymn and prayer followed. Mrs. Dorothy Coultes had bible study based on Matt. 7: 13-14. “The Narrow Gate” is not easy and it culminated in quite a discussion of the referendum vote coming up. Mrs. Alice Scott had Mission Study using the special mandate “Don't Mention It”. Men need to think about the power and privilege they have in groups and sometimes abuse that privilege. A DIV.
