Auburn"The news from Jeff Thomson, first vice president of the Huron Pioneer Thresher and Hobby Association presented Bill Andrews and his mother Jean with the Wayne Houston Trophy for Best Show engine at the Huron Pioneer Thresher and Hobby show at the association's annual awards night held at Blyth Memorial Hall Friday night. _______________ Six tables in play at Auburn euchre game Best show engine There were six tables in play at the euchre party held at the Community Hall on Tuesday evening, Oct. 13. Prizes went to the following: high man, Ruth Fisher (playing as a man); low man, Tom Hallam; high lady, Bernice Brown; low lady, Bernice McClinchey and novelty prize, Lillian Appleby. Euchre parties are held every Tuesday evening at 8 p.m. at the Community Hall. W7 hear about history book The October meeting of the Women's Institute was held on Thursday, Oct. 15 with 10 members and one guest. President Evelyn Flett welcomed all, then read a poem on Thanksgiving. The Ode, Mary Stewart Collect and “O Canada” was sung with Marjorie McDougall as pianist. Marion Haggitt read the minutes and Guest minister preaches at Knox United Rev. Paul Ross conducted the service at Knox United Church with Nancy Park as organist and Bernice Gross as pianist. The guest minister was Rev. Robert Ball of North Street United Church. Members of Londesboro United Church Congregation were present as well. The invitation to worship was sung. A duet “Just a Little Talk With Jesus” was sung by visitors, John and Helen Baumback of Port Albert. Rev. Ross gave the prayers and hymn “O Worship the King” was sung. The children's story was told by Rev. Ross and the Lord's Prayer repeated in unison after which children’s chorus “Jesus Bids Us Shine” was sung. After the singing of “God's Name For Ever Shall Endure” Rev. Ross and Rev. Ball read the scriptures. Mrs. Baumback sang a solo “His Name is Jesus”; then the congregation sang hymn “God Will Take Care of You”. Rev. Ball's sermon was entitled “Hide and Seek With God”. correspondence in the absence of the secretary Kay Lapp. The treasurer's report was given by Tena Empey. The card report was given by Mildred Lawlor. The roll call was answered by telling of “a place in Ontario I recommend to visit.” Betty Archambault gave a report on the London area convention. Evelyn Flett gave the report on the Fall Rally held at Brussels, the theme being “Partners in Growth”. Marjorie McDougall introduced the guest speaker. Rhea Hamilton- Seeger who gave an interesting talk of the history of West Wawanosh book, compiling the history, the proof reading and the work that Horticultural society learns how to make Christmas arrangements The Auburn Horticultural Society were guests of the Seaforth Horticultural Society on Wednes­ day evening, Oct. 14 at 7:30 p.m. The guest speaker for the evening was Mrs. McCallum from the Royal Botanical Gardens who demonstrated many Christmas arrangements. She made a beautiful wreath of cedar for the door. She said to gather the greens by the end of November. Collect cones early. Save your peach pits; then drill a hole in them and put wire through. Twist for a stem and add a big red bow. You can also add a red bird if wished. She also made a floral cage for the wall. She had all kinds of greens and some fan tail willow. This arrangement could be changed for different seasons. Mrs. McCallum also made a table centerpiece in a neutral coloured dish with a pin holder. goes in to making the book - which should be ready by May 1993. She talked on the book “Everything For The Road” by William Barlow and also a cook book that is ready now. She stated that the Women’s Institute is for making a better community for all. She stated also that the book on the history of West Wawanosh will be in larger print for better reading. Tena Empey thanked Rhea for her interesting talk. Lunch was served by Mildred Lawlor and Ruth Jardin. Jean Plaetzer won the gift for going the farthest for Thanksgiving and Martha Daer a prize for being at the most weddings this year. A social time was enjoyed. She put a pear-shaped gourd on it, which had been sprayed gold. She covered the pin holder with stones. She made a buffet table arrangement with candles, red ribbon, miniature carnations, crab apples dipped in shellac and green grapes. Phyllis Rodger in hospital Recent visitors with Mrs. Beth Lansing was Mrs. Phyllis Arnett of Mount Forest. Sorry to report that Mrs. Phyllis Rodger is a patient in Alexandra Marine and General Hospital, Goderich. She is wished a speedy recovery. It was nice to see Murray Rollison back at Auburn. He attended Knox United Church Anniversary Service on Sunday.
