Ushers were Vera Hessel- wood and Mary Walden. Phyllis Boak, organist and choir leader, provided the prelude music and led the ladies' choir in two lovely anthems, "Living for Jesus" and "Above Every Name". Lenora Davidson conducted the worship service and extended a warm welcome to everyone. The hymn "Come Ye Thankful People Come" was sung. Lenora chose an appropriate theme "Split Level Thanksgiving" and opened with a Helen Steiner Rice poem. The scripture readings were from Psalms and Corinthians. Lenora compared our lives to music with its two lines, the bass and the treble. The bass line is daily life, replete with cares, work and worry. The treble line adds the joy to our lives, the times when we let God come into our hearts and truly appreciate our blessings, such as the beauty of nature and our families. At special times like Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter we like to surround ourselves with those we love. We should not forget there are many people who do not have happiness at these meaningful occasions, but no matter what our circumstances we must remember, "nothing shall separate us from the love of God". Susan Howson introduced the guest speaker, Alma Langford of Exeter. Alma delivered a humorous, thought provoking message on "The Golden Years". She told how Jesus brought the news that we might have life and how recently Christ had been portrayed as a happy person.
