Beautiful sunny fall weather
reigned over a most enjoyable four-
day Thanksgiving holiday weekend
trip, taken by Mary Bone, Doreen
Dale, Mildred Jacklin and Leola
Hood. After boarding the Highland
Tours bus in Stratford on Friday
morning and crossing the bridge
into Detroit, our overnight stay at
the Ramada Inn in Louisville,
Kentucky was appreciated.
After an early wake up call at
6:00 a.m. on Saturday the tour
proceeded on to Nashville where
the main attraction was the Grand
Ole Opry Show. The group spent
some time at the shops on Music
Row and a shopping mall, then
settled into the Sheraton Inn.
On Sunday morning there was a
delicious buffet brunch on the
General Jackson and a cruise down
the Cumberland River. After
spending time at Opryland Park
and a visit to Opryland Hotel, they
returned to Louisville for an
overnight stay, then enjoyed a
leisurely trip home, amidst pretty
fall colours, arriving in Brussels at
10:30 p.m.
Brussels arena manager Murray
McArter noted there will be public
skating on both Saturday after
noons from 12:30 -2 p.m. and Sun
days from 5:30-7 p.m. Price is $1.

Mennonites hold communion
Lucy Hesse led the congrega
tional singing at Brussels
Mennonite Fellowship on Sunday,

Footwashing was held, followed
by communion.
Pastor Tom Warner preached
from John 13: 1-17. In this passage,
Jesus gives the key to happiness,
something many in today's world
are seeking. Know the word and
practise it. The Bible tells us God
died for us. If we believe that, we
should live as if we do, and not be
hung up in the past. Our sins are
gone. Maybe the memory of sin is
there but the penalty is gone, so we
may live our lives in happiness. To
know the Word of God but do
nothing about it is sinful but if you
do something about it is a blessing.
Happiness is rooted in what you
believe but is found in what you
do.
On Thursday evening, Del and
Charlotte Glick and family, who
have served as missionaries in
China will share with the Venture
Club (area children grade 3-6). On
Friday evening they will be at the
Church again when the congrega
tion will hold a pot luck meal, prior
to a talk by the Glicks.
On Saturday evening, the grade
7-8's have planned a bowling
activity. The annual fall meeting
for WMSC members will be held at
Breslau Mennonite Church next
Saturday.
On Sunday, October 4, Pastor
Tom preached from Matthew 4. An
evening hymn-sing was held at
Dave and Carol Goodlands.
On Thanksgiving Sunday, Pastor
Tom Warner preached from Luke
17: 11-19. Alice Brothers accom
panied a duet by Anne Hemingway
and Lena Siegers. A pot luck meal
was enjoyed following the
Christian Education Hour.
The Venture Club for any area
children grades three to six has had
two successful meetings. The first
meeting had an attendance of 36
children. They were under the
leadership of Wendy Martin and
other volunteers. The group meets
at the Mennonite Church each
Thursday evening.
LegionCadet program starts
by Sandra Josling
Cadets have started the 1992-93
season with training sessions held
Tuesday evenings. Many activities
are planned for the Cadets, such as
rifle range, trips to Camp Ipper-
wash, winter camping and gliding.
Training is done in drill, map
orientation, weapons use and
safety, first aid, and outdoor
camping skills.
The Corp is sponsored by the
National Defence of Canada and
the Brussels Legion. There is no
cost to the cadet to join. Complete
uniforms and travelling expenses
are paid by these sponsors.
Summer camps are available to
cadets also. The Corp has
approximately 25 members. The
Commanding Officers are Captain
John Grobbo and Stuart Parker.
The Corp is looking to the public
for help with new officers as well
as cadets. The volunteer needs no
experience and would, in turn, be
helping to develop our youth.
