Cranbrook Chicks and Rooster
Saturday, Sept. 26 meeting started
with the 4H pledge. Roll call was
taken then members did a fresh egg
test by taking two eggs and putting
them in water. The egg that floated
highest was the older egg.
We took a hard boiled egg and
crossed sectioned it to see what it
looked like.
We played the safe storage game.
We talked about separating egg
yolks and freezing egg whites.
Then we all got washed and pre

Ontario farmers are not going to
accept losing their farms to Toronto

This message will be delivered

REPRESENTATIVE
FOR HURON COUNTY
The Ministry of Agriculture and
Food office in Clinton will be
holding an Open House on
Wednesday, Oct. 7, between 1:00
p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
This is the middle day of
Ontario's Agri-Food Week, which
annually recognizes the
contribution made to Ontario's
economy by food producers,
processors and distributors.
The 1991 census of agriculture
indicated Huron County was the
provincial leader in terms of
number of farmers (3,260) and in
gross farm receipts ($437 million).
There are 68,633 farms in Ontario
with total farm receipts of $6.67
billion.
On April 29, the Clinton field
office moved to a new location at
100 Don Street. This new 9,000
square foot building sits on a two-
acre landscaped lot with over fifty
parking spaces. All offices and
meeting rooms are on one floor and
we offer barrier-free access.
4-H club cooks
omelettes
BY LESLEY ELLIOTT
On Monday, Sept. 21 at 6:30 we
held our first Brussels 4H meeting
at Gabrielle McLaughlins with 11
members in attendance. We have
three leaders Angela Pelke, Kathy
Bridge and Gabrielle McLaughlin.
We elected Becky McLaughlin
as president, Sherry Therrien as
vice president, Shannon Conley as
secretary and Lesley Elliott as press
reporter.
The topic of our club is cooking,
using chickens and eggs. To
complete the evening we cooked
omelettes which were enjoyed by
everyone. Next week we are
making eggimals out of hard boiled
eggs.
garbage, she's burying farmland as
well,” said OFA President Roger
George. “It's time to tell the
minister that farmers want to be
treated fairly - we're tired of being
dumped on.”
The OFA is protesting the
selection process used in
determining proposed landfill sites
within the Greater Toronto Area, a
process that resulted in the majority
of these sites being located on
viable family farms.

“What Mrs. Grier says, and what
she does, appear to be two different
things,” said Mr. George. “We
accept that a suitable landfill site
must be found in the three regions
of Durham, Peel and York, but we
are going to hold Mrs. Grier to her
word that these sites will not fall on
farmland.”
Farmers and rural families from
across the province are expected at
the Sept. 30 Queen's Park rally
scheduled for noon on the opening
day of the Legislature.
