Believers can be handicapped in spirit says CRC minister
Rev. John Drost of Kitchener
lead the Blyth Christian Reformed
Church congregation in morning
worship on Sunday, Sept. 27. He
began with the reading of the Law.
Prayer concerns included the
“Discovery Days Crusade”, which
began Sept. 27 at the Blyth
Memorial Hall. Also the special
needs of Mr. Gerrit Gerlinks, Mrs.
J. DeVries, and little Daniel
Bouman will be kept in daily
prayers.
The offering today was for the
Church and the Cadet Program.
Scripture was taken from Psalm
139 and Luke 6: 1:11 with verse 10
as the text. The scripture lesson
from Luke tells of a man who had
“withered hands”, Jesus healed the
man. The “hands” represent a
Spiritual Commodity, in the Bible.
Rev. Drost described several ways
in which we as believers can be
“spiritually handicapped or
incapacitated”. Our hands can be
weak and ineffective if we are
reluctant to accept a task in the
family of God. Or a spiritual
handicap can prevent us from
praying or working for God. Other
spiritual conditions repress our
ability to praise God! Some hands
can not let go of covetousness or
money. Certain “withered hands”
can not clasp with others in
fellowship and love, or to show
sincere concern, care and love for
brothers and sisters in Christ. The
right hand of fellowship is of
upmost important in the Family of
Christ! The (root) of all spiritual
handicaps is sin and a refusal to
hear God's voice.
Rev. Drost asked, “do you
recognize your own need, your
handicap, your major spiritual
condition? Would you probe deeper
with the help of God's Spirit to
examine your handicap?”
Jesus knows each of our needs
and he can meet them if we are
willing to acknowledge them.
Indifference, fear and unbelief
often prevents us from responding.
Rev. Drost challenged each of us
not to doubt or question but to step
forward in faith! Christ wants to
restore each of our hands, our lives,
and our hearts! Come to him in
expectation and repentance.
The evening service will be
incorporated into the “Crusade”, at
Blyth Memorial Hall.
