PAGE 7.w=The news from Compiled by Betty McCall Phone 887-6677 On September 18 a retirement party was held for Roy Williamson in the Brussels Legion. A large crowd turned out to honour Roy, who retired Sept. 1 after 21 years of service in Grey Township - 11 as road superintendent, two as councillor, two as deputy-reeve and six as reeve. Roy and Kathleen were called to the platform, when Leona Armstrong, reeve of Grey Township read the following address: We are here this evening to honour Roy and Kathleen. Roy has had a long association with Grey Township and joined the council in 1971. He served as Deputy-Reeve in 1973-74 and Reeve from 1975 to February 1982 when he was hired as road superintendent. Roy was always very punctual. While sitting on council with Roy, I can never remember a meeting when he was late. No doubt Kathleen saw to this and ended up doing the milking on numerous council meeting nights. Josephine St., Wingham • 357-2002 County Council as Deputy Reeve with Roy for two years. I used to kid him that it was easier to be a Williamson than an Armstrong when they called for a recorded vote as they started at the beginning of the alphabet and by the time they got to Williamson he could pretty well tell how the vote was going. This wasn't fair to Roy as he was always very conscientious and did his home work. Roy - you have been faced with many challenges over the years - some problems were solved easily and some not so easily. You have Hullett Twp. drafts new swimming pool by-law Hullett Township council agreed at the Sept. 15 meeting to instruct the township solicitor to draft a new swimming pool by-law, which would include other man-made structures. Council approved the installation F had to work closely with many different personalities which is a challenge in itself. Some of you here will remember those council meetings in the old township office in Ethel. I remember one evening having to leave for something and when I came back into the room I could hardly find my chair. The air was blue with smoke. Even the clerk smoked in those days. Leona presented Roy with a gold wrist watch and Fred Uhler presented him with a plaque. Kathleen was presented with a lovely bouquet of flowers.
