The Citizen, 1992-09-23, Page 27Blyth Festival plans exciting art activities As the bright orange school buses roll through the Huron County landscape, taking their cargo of neon-clad kiddies back to class, the Blyth Festival Art Gallery can look back upon a colourful and eventful season. Jerry and Carol McDonnell curated the historic and fascinating George Reid exhibition and presided over two informal evening discussions of the work. In strong, contrast, Fragmentation/Regenera­ tion presented a powerful contem­ porary look at environmental matters through the eyes of Janny Frazer and Audrey Shimizu. Curated by Bruce Stainton, this multi-media presentation served to stimulate all who viewed the show. The final exhibition of the season, A Print Defined, featured the work of a number of Ontario artists in the media of woodcuts, engravings, serigraphs and other print media. Curators Jo Manning and Bev Walker presented an interesting evening talk with demonstrations of woodcut printing, intaglio and silk­ screen. The Gallery Committee is now working on the next Community Art Exhibition, Our Land, planned for the Bainton Gallery from Dec. 7-19. Artists are to create works 20th season brings out the stars at The Grand Artistic Director Martha Henry recently announced casting for The Grand Theatre's 20th anniversary season set to open Oct. 30. William Hutt, one of Canada's most honoured and acclaimed actors, leads the roster of an all-star line­ up. Mr. Hutt, a former artistic director of The Grand Theatre (75- 79), will star in the season opener, A.R. Gurney's The Dining Room. Coincidentally, Mr. Hutt's last London appearance was in yet another Gumey play, The Cocktail Hour, presented at The Grand in 1990. Mr. Hutt, will be joined by Patricia Collins, who starred in last season's closing production, The Perils of Persephone, and in the 1990 production of Woman in Mind. Also featured will be Peter Hutt, who portrayed John Honeyman in A Walk In The Woods last January. Performing with Peter Hutt in this sentimental comedy is his wife, Brigitte Robinson, making her first appearance on the Grand stage. Rounding out the cast will be two veterans of the musical Les Miserables, Jonathan D. Whittaker and Jan Alexandra Smith, making their Grand Theatre debuts. Leading the cast of Mavor Moore's musical adaptation of A Christmas Carol will be William Hutt as the miserly Scrooge. Joining Mr. Hutt will be Peter Hutt, Jonathan D. Whittaker, Brigitte Robinson, and Jan Alexandra Smith. A Christmas Carol also marks the return to London of such RECEPTION to celebrate the marriage of MR. &, MRS. PHIL BLACK (nee Jody Branstan) Saturday, September 26th, 1992 to be held at the Blyth Community Centre Dance 9-1 Music by Soundproof Music Services that will reflect their feelings about the environment that surrounds them, then submit their original drawings, paintings, or sculpture to the Bainton Gallery, in person, Friday, Dec. 4 between 7 and 9 p.m., or Saturday, Dec. 5 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. No more than two works per person will be accepted and the entry fee is $5 per work. The maximum size of art work is 30 inches in any dimension. Works must be suitably framed and ready to hang. Children's Art Classes include Puppetry and Mask-Making with Marian Doucette, well known story-teller and puppeteer. Drawing and Painting with Anne Seymour will teach children aged 7-10 art appreciation, colour theory, acrylic painting and watercolour. Adult classes include Puppetry with Marian Doucette and Drawing and Painting with Ron Walker. Pre­ registration is necessary for all art classes. For more information call the Blyth Festival (519) 523-9300. familiar faces as renowned Shaw and Stratford Festival performer Barry MacGregor, whose previous Grand credits include Noises Off, The Doctor's Dilemma and Godspell; and Eric Woolfe, fondly remembered by Grand audiences as Eugene in both Biloxi Blues and Brighton Beach Memoirs. Rounding out the cast will be Ellen Horst who will be performing at The Grand for the first time. Eugene O'Neill's classic masterpiece A Moon For The Misbegotten will star Mary Walsh as the strapping farm girl Josie, and Andy Jones as her brother Mike. Stratford Festival leading man, Colm Feore makes his first Grand appearance as the broken-spirited James Tyrone, Jr. and Hardee T. Lineham, last season's Felix Ungar in The Odd Couple, will portray the wealthy landowner, T. Stedman Harder. Topping off this celebrated cast will be Roland Hewgill in the role that garnered him a Dora Mavor Moore Award, that of the conniving father, Phil Hogan. Mr. Hewgill last appeared at The Grand in the 1989 production of Blood Relations.
