Blyth Oldtimers win
(B’ championship

Slowpitch team competed in the
league's year-end tournament over
the past weekend in Holmesville.
Blyth came away as “B” champs
in their first year in the league.
In the opening game of the 10
team tournament, Blyth lost a close
Bulls begin
exhibition
games with
a win
The Brussels Bulls opened their
exhibition schedule with a 9-7 win
over the New Hamburg Spirit
Friday night at the University of
Waterloo. Craig Quipp led the
attack with three goals in a game
that saw the Bulls break open a 6-6
tie early in the third period, scoring
three times in under two minutes.
Saturday afternoon the Mid
Ontario Champion Orangeville
Crushers defeated the Bulls 4-1 at
the Listowel Arena. Brian Zabel
scored the only goal for Brussels
late in the game.
Sunday night in Orangeville the
Crushers scored three goals in the
game's opening seven minutes
enroute to a 3-1 victory and a
sweep of the home and home
exhibition series. Defenceman
Jason Camm scored for the Bulls
early in the second period.
The Bulls have trimmed their
roster to 30 players, with more
decisions expected this weekend
following their final exhibition
verses New Hamburg Sunday at
5 p.m. at the Listowel Arena.
From the Bullspen: Quade
Lightbody is still in the camp of the
Peterborough Major ‘A’ Petes
while Todd Norman has signed
with the Jr. B. Stratford Cullitons.
Scott Vader signed with the Jr. B.
Owen Sound Greys and will play
against his brother Greg, who
earlier signed with Listowel.
As expected the OHA voted to
break away from the Ontario
Hockey Federation and operate as
an independent hockey body.
Earlier this year the OHF had voted
to dissolve the OHA and have
Junior Hockey run under the
jurisdiction of Minor Hockey. The
OHFs first plan for Junior Hockey
was to eliminate Junior D in hopes
of reviving juvenile hockey in
Ontario.
Woman wins
$50 in seniors
centre draw
On Tuesday, Sept. 8 the first
earlybird draw for “Spring Fling
’93” was held at the Wingham and
Area Seniors Day Centre. Mrs.
Anne Fischer of Teeswater was the
first draw winner of $50.00.
There will be 29 weekly draws of
$50 each culminating on Saturday,
April 3 when there will be a dance
at the Teeswater Community
Centre. Draws start at 9:00 p.m. for
$50 until 1:00 a.m. for $1,000.00.
Tickets are still available by
calling 357-1440 or at the Seniors
Centre in Wingham, Home
Hardware in Lucknow or from Rita
Buckle in Teeswater.

Blyth beat Vanastra 18-3 and
Holmesville 14-2 to set up the “B”
showdown with Porter's Hill. Blyth
hung on for a 12-11 victory in a
hard fought game.
The oldtimer team would like to
hank Randy and Eleanor for their
support this past season.

Racing for home

Dean’s Roadhouse team in play-off action Saturday in Brussels. The Bullettes won the game
12-6 but didn't manage to capture the championship. Winning the playoffs A division was
Brown's of Listowel and capturing the B title were the Bluevale Bares. Seven teams competed
in the playoffs.
