Legion wins a first in
Fall Fair chili-cookoff
BY SANDRA JOSLING
The week of Sept. 20-26 is
Legion Week, a chance for the
public to leam of the work and the
special activities done by the
Legion yearly.
There have been changes to the
Legion membership eligibility. If
you care to become a member you
can join as an Ordinary, someone
who has served or is serving in the
Armed Forces, The Royal
Canadian Mounted Police, Militia
and Commissioned Officers on the
Cadet Instructor list. An Associate
is a spouse of an Ordinary or Life
member or daughter of an Ordinary
or Life Member, or anyone who
has served three years in the
Canadian Armed Forces Cadet
Groups. This category has now
been opened to the grandchildren
of Ordinary or Life members.
Lastly, Fraternal members are
persons not eligible for Ordinary or
Associate membership but can be
affiliated to the Branch Fraternal
for social and educational purposes.
All persons eligible for
membership in the Royal Canadian
Legion are welcome to apply at
their local Branch.
The Brussels Legion Cadet Corp
is searching for interested persons
to help with the Corp. There is no
need for experience as they are
willing to train.
A special congratulations is
extended to Comrade Mark
Howard. Mark represented the
Brussels Legion at the Fall Fair
Chili Cook-off. Mark's mild chili
won first place. Be sure to hide the
recipe until next year.
Service Officer Mel Harper will
be visiting the Branch Oct. 26. If

Church news
Brussels Mennonite Fellowship
Pastor Tom Warner preached from
Matthew 2, on Sunday, Sept. 20.
Being a Christian does not make
your life perfect. It means that God
will walk through it with you. As a
sermon title, Tom used “Jesus
inspires terror and worship. He
inspires terror to those who disobey
God and worship to those who
must and obey. For example, Herod
was so terrified of Christ that he
ordered all babies under two years
of age to be killed.
The ladies will meet at the
Church for their monthly
fellowship meeting on Tuesday
evening, Sept. 22, with Linda
Garland and Marg Becker in charge
of the meeting.
The Junior Youth (grade 7-8)
will meet at the Church on
Saturday evening for a video and
game.
Venture Club will resume Oct. 1.

friendly and the staff is nice. He
enjoyed meeting the community at
the barbecue and we should add
that he is a great cook.
Mr. Hooftman is our new French
