Huron NDP’s support yes vote in national constitution referendum A resolution to support the “yes” vote in the referendum of October 26 on the proposed changes in the constitution was passed at the September meeting of the Huron- Bruce New Democratic Party. The meeting and picnic was held at the farm of Fran and Tony McQuail near Lucknow on Sept. 13. Huron MPP Paul Klopp explained some of the background to the agreement which the New Democratic Government of Ontario reached with the other provinces and federal government. Mr. Klopp stressed compromise was vital for the overall good of the country and he strongly supported the resolution. The nomination for the riding of Huron-Bruce will be held at Lucknow on Nov. 12. Ross Hemingway of RR 3, Brussels said he would seek nomination. He farms in Grey Township and works at Air Ontario. Tony McQuail of West Wawanosh said he would also go after the nomination. He farms in West Wawanosh and has served as the executive to the Minister of Agriculture. He is the former President of the Huron Federation of Agriculture and served on the Huron Board of Education. Elections were held for the executive and Tony McQuail was elected as president; Cheryl Murray of Kincardine as northern vice president; Jerry McDonnell of Belgrave as southern vice- president; Beth Fulton of Belgrave as secretary and Fran McQuail as treasurer. Leonard Lobb (right) is congratulated by fellow candidate Phil Cornish (left) and Reg Gosse, Regional Coordinator for the Reform Party on being Huron-Bruce's first-ever Reform party federal election candidate. The election was held Thursday at Central Huron Secondary School in Clinton. FITNESS IS FUN When You Work at Your Own Pace! Scrap tires won't be burned at landfill site Rhea Hamilton-Seeger addressed West Wawanosh council at its Sept. 1 meeting regarding the Communi ty Features program, a Canada wide project. Through the north, west, central and south Huron Community Development committees an appli cation has been submitted to Employment and Immigration Canada to have the county approved for assistance under the program. Approval was granted in June of this year. The aim of the program is to pro vide advice and financial assistance to small business or entrepreneurs seeking to expand or establish, thus creating new jobs. Council concurred with the objections of Kincardine regarding the province's proposal to make public sector pension funds avail able for loans to prospective busi nesses. Notice of this motion should be forwarded to the Premier, MPP Paul Klopp, Conservative leader Michael Harris and Liberal leader Lyn McLeod. A motion passed stating that scrap tires deposited at the landfill site may not be burned. As it is costly to have a large number of tires trucked, council authorized the operator of the land fill to refuse to accept more than two tires per household or business per week. Council decided to have desig nated members of the board draft proposals for incorporation into an agreement for the operation of the Lucknow recreation program, arena maintenance and the operation of the arena. This will be submitted to Luc know, Ashfield, West Wawanosh and Kinloss councils.
