Everyone is encouraged to put their wish (along with the price you're willing to pay) into the well. Items such as knitting or crocheting projects, baking (Christmas cakes, pies, bread), Christmas crafts, quilting or shopping trips are examples of what you could wish for. Then, the U.C.W. hopes to find someone to make the “wish items”. They will be on display at the Bonanza. Anyone wishing to donate items not on the wish list is At a planning meeting for the Blyth U.C.W.'s upcoming Harvest Bonanza, enthusiasm was keen for two new events which will be part of the Bonanza on Nov. 5, 6 and 7. The U.C.W. hopes to prove that “Wishes Do Come True”. They are planning a “Wish List” auction, from Sept. 12 to Oct. 4. A wishing well will be on display in Webster's Clothing and Footwear Store (and in Blyth United Church on Sundays). Highway 4 may become connecting link in Blyth The decision to make Hwy 4 through Blyth a connecting link may be decided at a special meet ing of council in the near future. The move was prompted after a meeting with six representatives of MTO on Monday afternoon regard ing the future reconstruction of the highway through the village as a continuation of the highway project done north of town to Belgrave last year. The village had proposed having a combined storm sewer with MTO. However, Engineer Martin Favell told councillors and engin- neers Bruce Potter of B.M. Ross and Associates, who have been responsible for the drainage work and Art Clarke of Maitland Engi neering Service, who has helped the village with the PRIDE pro jects, that he could not see how the legalities of such an agreement could work. Using examples such as mainte nance, water quality and liability for damage, Mr. Favell said he could not see how the legalities could be defined, suggesting as an alternative the village consider tak ing over control of its portion of the highway as a connecting link. "Are you implying that without a connecting link you won't agree to a combined storm sewer?" asked Mr. Potter. "I am stating that," said Mr. Favell, explaining there has been no precedent established to the con trary. "There have been many cases where the combined storm sewer is done on existing connecting links." Should the highway become a connecting link, officially, it means the municipality has control over what is done on the road, regarding such things as signing and lighting. They are subsidized by the ministry for construction, snowplowing, sanding and snow removal. Storm sewer responsibility would be 100 per cent municipality after con struction. Dennis McLeod of MTO told council there is a cost benefit, in addition to not having to assume Continued on page 28 welcome to do so also. In order to make your wish come true, you must come to Blyth United Church during the Bonanza and place your bid. At 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, the wish items and all others donated will be sold to the highest bidders. The second new event will be a “Harvest Kitchen” at the Harvest Bonanza Bazaar at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7. This section will include items made in the kitchen, packaged (where possible) in small containers for singles or small families, and will include such things as casseroles, salads, pie fillings, mixes, jams, pickles, etc. The most popular section of the Bonanza, the used clothing sale will once again be a highlight. It will operate on Thursday, Nov. 5 and Friday, Nov. 6. Babysitting is provided free of charge during these two days. New this year at the clothing sale is noon hour shopping on Friday, and on extended “Bag Sale”.
