Many line up for Saturday night supper
Continued from A-17
Saturday night supper is the busiest. The
people line up for the food and the ladies and
their helpers are kept hopping in the kitchen,
making sure that the food keeps coming.
Mrs. Ament claims that they haven't run
out of food in the past two or three years, but
it has happened before. What is most
common, she adds, is that they may run out
of one kind of meat, but they always have
another choice to serve.
Along with many choices of pie, the
Legion Ladies prepare carrot cake and
cherry cheesecake for the dinners.
Everything is made by the Legion Ladies
members.
The Bly th Lions Club food booth has been
a popular attraction at the Thresher Reunion
from almost day one, says Lion Charles
Shaw. The fair board originally owned the
booth then the Lions took it over and fixed it
up for their own purposes.
Hamburgers, hot dogs, french fries,
doughnuts and similar fare are the
specialities of the Lions' food booth.
The Blyth and District Fire Dept,
contributes to the scrumptious line-up of
food available to visitors with pancake
breakfasts on Saturday and Sunday morning
at the fire hall.
Fire Chief Paul Josling says the firemen
start to plan out the breakfasts about one
month ahead of time. Different tasks are
delegated out to different members.
Last year, with about six men running the
breakfast at a time, they went through
approximately 130 pounds of pancake batter,
15 gallons of milk, 175 pounds of sausage,
and 150 pounds of bacon. Those are hungry
crowds!
Normally, says Chief Josling, the
breakfast goes from 7:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
or until there is no one left to feed. The
firemen serve about 800 to 1000 people at
the two meals.
The delicious smell of baked beans might
waft out over the crowds from time to lime
as you tour the fair grounds. Raymond
