31st Annual Huron Pioneer Thresher & Hobby Association 1992 Reunion, 1992-09-09, Page 16PAGE A-16. THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 9, 1992.
People travel for miles to take part in craft show
People come from far and wide to
witness the sights and sounds of the
Thresher Reunion, but it's not just one thing
that brings the crowds. As craft committee
chairman, Jean Fox says, "everything
attracts them; that's why we have such good
crowds."
To add to the excitement of seeing age-
old steam engines among other farm
machinery from the past, the Thresher
Reunion has an arena full of crafts and
displays for visitors.
Ms. Fox is in charge of inviting the
different crafts people to the Reunion . She
sends out letters to those who displayed their
wares in previous years and invites new
people if there will be room in the arena.
Ms. Fox is also the convener for the Seaforth
Craft Show so she has contacts to find new
displays.
Space is an important factor when finding
displays. Ms. Fox must ask each crafts
person to inform her of how large their
display table is in order for her to make a
floor plan. When the time comes for the
tables to be set up, Ms. Fox is there to tell
them where to go and she keeps track of the
size of the tables.
The crafts in the arena constitute a
mixture of everything. There are ceramics,
dolls, jewelry, quilting, woodworking, and
leather among many other things. Different
organizations put up displays as well.
Ms. Fox tries to arrange it so two vendors
who work with the same materials will be on
opposite sides of the arena.
Most of the displayers have been coming
for many years now and they have basically
the same location for their tables each time.
Ms. Fox says that it's not one single thing
that attracts the visitors, but a combination
of everything. It's a part of the fun of the
Thresher Reunion.
Organizer always
looking for new
entertainment ideas
Continued from A-15
Saturday for music buffs. This will be
followed by a musical get-together.
On Sunday the step dance competitions
are held, along with other local
entertainment.
Mrs. Van Egmond is kept very busy with
organizing all this fun for the Reunion
visitors, but she is always thinking of new
ways to entertain people. She admits that
has "something up [her] sleeve" for next
year's event. Guess you'll have to show up
to find out what it is.
A Child's Delight
The annual craft show is always a huge attraction for both young and old at
the Thresher Reunion. Last year some 60 crafters displayed their creations.
