Thresher Reunion offers great entertainment Entertainment is certainly not lacking at the Thresher Reunion. Among the many machines to look at, and the different displays surrounding the arena there are fiddle contests, jam session, jamborees, step dance competitions, and local talent show. Gladys Van Egmond has been in charge of organizing entertainment for the Thresher Reunion since 1985. Part of her job is to keep a mailing list of all the participants at the Reunion from year to year; then she sends invitations to the performers about one month ahead of the event. There are a lot of repeat performers, so the weekend has turned into more than a reunion for threshers. During the year Mrs. Van Egmond goes to other competitions to scout for new talent. She says she always has "an ear out for good music". If she likes someone she finds, she will send the person an invitation to perform at the Thresher Reunion. Wednesday, Sept. 9 is the campers' jam session. Mrs. Van Egmond says about half the campers will be at the fairgrounds by that date and this gives them something to do. There will also be Euchre games. Thursday is the fiddle jam session. A fiddle workshop for interested fiddlers will take place in the arena auditorium as well. On Friday, Mrs. Van Egmond has lined up a lot of fun. The Huron Strings will play on the main stage at 1:00 p.m. She plans to ask local step dancers to perform as well. Friday evening is the Jamboree in the auditorium. The entire day is designated as Handicapped and Senior Citizens' Day.
