Girls’ hockey
may soon
come to area
Girls’ hockey may soon be a
reality in this region's local arenas.
A public meeting in Goderich on
Sept. 23 will study the possibility
of establishing teams in this area.
Officials from the Ontario
Women's Hockey Association will
be on hand to answer questions
about the sport, and to advise
organizers on how to start teams.
Close to 6,000 girls played
hockey in Ontario last season, in
divisions for Novice, Atom, Pee
Wee, Bantam, Midget, Intermediate
and Senior. Provincial and National
Championships are held annually,
and an International Championship
takes place every second year. The
I.O.C. has recently accepted
Women's Hockey as an Olympic
sport. Girls play hockey by
C.A H.A. rules, with no body
checking in any division. Players
wear standard hockey equipment,
including hockey skates.
Everyone interested in finding
out more about female hockey is
invited to attend, especially girls of
all ages, as well as parents.

Tigers lose
playoff
series
The Brussels Tigers learned that
the playoffs are indeed a new
season for after finishing atop the
Huron County Fastball League they
were quickly swept aside in two
straight games by the Seaforth
Bears.
Last Monday in Seaforth the
Bears jumped quickly into a 7-0
lead and held on for a 7-3 win,
while Sunday in Brussels the Bears
held a 5-0 early lead enroute to a 6-
2 final score. Seaforth now meets
the Walton/Blyth Decor winner for
the North Division Championship.
The Brussels Tigers would like to
thank all their fans who supported
them throughout the season,for
despite their disappointing playoff
they enjoyed one of the best years
in team history, including their first
ever first place finish in league
play.
The Tigers are entered in the
Goderich Fastball Tournament this
weekend before their 1992 ball
season comes to a close. Game one
is Friday night at 6:30 against the
Goderich Orioles. Game two is
scheduled for late Saturday
afternoon.
