The news from
Community sees visitors
from all parts of country
Mr. Charles Tumbull of Calgary,
Alberta visited on Saturday with
Mr. and Mrs. Bert Johnston.
Mr. and Mrs. John Hanna and
duaghters Kimberley, Amanda and
Tiffany of North Battleford, Sask,
spent a few days last week visiting
with his grandmother Mrs.
Clarence Hanna.
Catherine Minick of Ottawa also
visited with her grandmother, Mrs.
Hanna.
Mrs. Agnes Bieman accom
panied her brother George Inglis to
visit with her son, Douglas Bieman,
and Mrs. Shirley Dodds of
Kincardine on Sunday.
Mrs. Winnifred Johnston of
Wingham and Mr. and Mrs. Lewis
Stonehouse visited with Mr. and
Mrs. Maitland Edgar of Petrolia on
Wednesday and Thursday. While
there they went to Thamesville to
pick blueberries.
Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Coultes have
recently returned home after
attending the Canadian Cattlemen's
Annual meeting at Calgary.
Over 50 Campbell relatives
gathered at the Lions Park in Blyth
on Sunday afternoon Aug. 23.
Everyone enjoyed a pot luck
lunch which was followed by
games and contests.
Relatives attending were from
London, Anc aster, Kincardine, Port
Elgin, Thessalon, Wingham, Blyth,
Belgrave and surrounding area.
Later some of the relatives
visited at the home of Rob and
Debbie Ansley of Blyth, where the
children enjoyed a swim in the
pool.
Mr. and Mrs. George Michie
have returned from spending a
week at Sault Ste. Marie. While
there they attended a reception and
dinner honouring Donald and
Brenda Whitfield on their 25th
wedding anniversary.
Mr. and Mrs. Lome Campbell
visited for three days with his sister
and brother-in-law Mr. and Mrs.
John Galbraith and their daughter
Kelly at their cottage at
Bobcaygeon.
George Inglis of RR 1, Belgrave,
recently travelled by plane to
Edmonton, Alberta where he met
his cousins at the home of John and
Eva Little. Lloyd Little, who had
come from Vancouver, B.C., also
visited at the same home.
Later John, George and Lloyd
left on a trip, in a house trailer of
John's, up the Alaska Highway to
Dawson City and to Hyder, Alaska.
On their return trip to Edmonton
they stopped to visit another cousin
and his wife Wilbert and Norma
Little, who live at 100 Mile House,
B.C.
When George left for his home
the weather was cold and it was
snowing quite heavily in
Edmonton.
Mrs. Sybil Straker travelled to
Vlississauga last Sunday to visit
vith relatives, Mr. and Mrs. Jack
kustin and their grandson Jason,
donday, she was taken to lunch at
tie C.N. Tower and, although the
weather was overcast, it was quite
n experience.
That same evening a surprise
jathering was held for a friend's
>Oth birthday.
Tuesday, they went to a Chinese
:entre where they had lunch and
hen a little shop where Sybil
nought a couple of Chinese urns.
On her way home she stopped in
Brampton and did a little shopping.
Mr. and Mrs. David McCormick,
Jeffrey and Gregory of St.
Catharines, Mr. and Mrs Nickey
Vesley, Jennie and Kristen of North
York and Mr. and Mrs. George
Johnston, Tara and Erin, Ilderton
spent the weekend with Mrs. Laura
Johnston.

were Mrs. Mary Warwick, Blyth;
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Warwick, and
Brett, RR 2, Exeter; Mrs. Fred
Armstrong, Auburn; Miss Mildred
McClenaghan, Whitechurch; Mrs.

W.M.S. members
to go on bus
trip Sept. 29
The W.M.S. held their meeting
Monday, Aug. 24 at the home of
Mrs. Irene Schultz. Mrs. Alice
Nicholson opened with the call to
worship. The scripture was read by
Mrs. Ivy Cloakey and the
“Meditation on Love” was ready by
Mrs. Freda Scott. Mrs. Hazel
Dalrymple led in prayer.
The hymn “O Love That Will
Not Let Me Go” was read in
unison. The roll call was answered
by a verse on love. The ladies were
reminded of the bus trip on Sept.
29. Mrs. Margaret Siertsema gave
the secretary's report and Mrs.
Cloakey the treasurer's report.
Mrs. Siertsema read a story “On
The Side of Laughter and A Few
Tears”. Mrs. Dalrymple read a
poem “Begin Today”. Mrs.
Nicholson had a story on the life of
Albert Schweitzer. A poem on
Zucchini was read by Mrs. Schultz.
The collection was taken and Mrs.
Schultz had an entertaining contest.
The next meeting will be Sept.
28.
The hostess served lunch and a
social time was enjoyed.

Michael Wilson to speak
Murray Cardiff M.P. for Huron-
Bruce and Parliamentary Secretary
to the Minister of Agriculture will
be hosting a reception and banquet
at the Teeswater Culross
Community Centre on Tuesday,
Sept. 15.
The guest speakers for this event,
which is sponsored by the Huron-
Bruce P.C. Association, are the
Honourable Michael Wilson,
Minister of Industry, Science and
Technology, and Minister for
International Trade and the
Honourable William Winegard,
Minister for Science.
Minister Wilson is Member of
Parliament for the Toronto area
riding of Etobicoke Centre. On
April 21, 1991, he was appointed
his current portfolio, with the
overall responsibility for co
ordinating the government's
policies to improve the
competitiveness of the Canadian
economy. He is chairman of the
Cabinet Committee on Priorities
and Planning, Operations,
Expenditure Review, and Canadian
Unity and Constitutional
Negotiations.
Mr. Wilson was first elected to
the House of Commons in 1979.
He was appointed to the Cabinet
that year as Minister of State for
International Trade in the
government of Prime Minister Joe
Clark.
In 1984, Mr. Wilson was
appointed Minister of Finance. In
that capacity, he was closely
involved in negotiating the Canada-
U.S. Free Trade Agreement and
oversaw the modernization of the
country's tax system. He
represented Canada at the
Economic Summits from 1985 to
1990 inclusive, and in the councils
of international financial
institutions spoke out for the
integration of environmental
concerns in economic decision
making. As Finance Minister, Mr.
Wilson was Canada's Governor at
the International Monetary Fund
and, from January 1990 to April
1991, served as Chairman of the

representative for the riding of
Guelph. He served as Chairman of

from 1986 to 1988. In 1988 he
served as Parliamentary Secretary
to the Minister for International
Trade.
Re-elected to Parliament in 1988
as the representative for Guelph-
Wellington, Dr. Winegard was
appointed Minister of State
(Science and Technology) on
January 30, 1989 and became

Canada's first Minister of Science
on February 23, 1990.
The evening promises to be very
enjoyable and informative given
the background and experience of
the honoured guests. The North-
American Free Trade Agreement,
which has just been concluded,
opens doors for businesses and
producers in Ontario and
throughout the country. Minister
Wilson will be happy to answer any
and all questions regarding this
historic agreement.
The following day on
Wednesday, Sept. 16 , Minister
Wilson will be addressing the
Kincardine, Port Elgin and
Southampton Chambers of
Commerce at a breakfast meeting,
while Minister Winegard meets
with the Goderich Chamber of
Commerce.
