conservation of farm land are
invited to Conservation Day at the
farm of Don and Alison Lobb near
Clinton on August 27 starting al
9:30 a.m.
This is one of the best
opportunities to see what an
individual can accomplish to
protect the environment through
conservation farming.
This day will include wagon
tours, walking tours and numerous
speakers explaining different
aspects of Mr. Lobb's conservation
farm. The noon hour program
includes Dr. Terry Daynard who
will be speaking on
“Environmental Farm Planning”.
There will also be displays of
conversation programs and a
machinery display to browse
through at your leisure.
Mr. Lobb's conservation
achievements during the past 10
years, since Conservation Day was
held at his farm in 1982, are a
model for today's conservation-
minded farmer. His conservation
practices include: shelter belts,
windbreaks, buffer strip, land
retirement, crop rotation with cover
crops, wildlife habitat on land and
in the stream and nutrient and
pesticide management.
All of these practices are
incorporated into his own unique
“Farm Environmental Plan”. In
addition, Mr. Lobb’s farm has
become a major research centre for
farm conservation projects.
His many achievements in the
last 10 years include numerous
awards. He has devoted
considerable time to sharing his
experiences through farm tours,
and seminars and has acted as an
advisor on many committees.
Several prestigious awards
received include the Norman
Alexander Conservation Award,
the Soil Conservation Society of
America Award and Honourary
Life Member of the Ontario
Institute of Agrologists. Just
recently he was inducted into the
Canadian Conservation Hall of
Fame for 1992.
Many people regard Mr. Lobb as
one of the fathers of conservation
initiatives, not only in Ontario but
throughout North America.
