Walton Man leads high speed chase Compiled by Betty McCall Phone 887-6677 A 48-year-old Wallon-area man led police on a high speed chase from Clinton to Goderich on Mon­ day evening, Aug. 17. A Clinton police officer had sig­ nalled for the man to stop. He was wanted by Seaforth police on charges of assault and watching and besetting, a charge used in cases of stalking. The victim is an 18-year-old Seaforth woman. Two Goderich police cruisers were involved in the pursuit, as well as cruisers from Clinton, the OPP and Seaforth, said Goderich Sgt. George Lonsbary. Besides the original charges, the man is facing additional charges under the Criminal Code for dan­ gerous driving, by the Clinton police, as well as failing to stop for police. Seaforth police are also charging him under the Trespass to Property Act. The man, who was released on his own recognizance, is set to appear in court Sept. 14. Reeve declares pecuniary interest in property re-zoning amendment Reeve Marie Hicknell declared a conflict of pecuniary interest at McKillop council's regular meeting on August 4, in regards to a zoning amendment because her husband is the owner of the property in ques­ tion. Francis Hicknell has applied for a zoning amendment for part Lot 16, Cone. 5, to permit a residence on the one acre lot Councilor Sharon McClure also disclosed a conflict of pecuniary interest in regards to the tile drainage loan approvals because her husband is an employee of KMM Farm Drainage. Two tile drainage loan applica­ tions in the amount of $20,000 each were accepted by council. Road Superintendent Wayne Dolmage's voucher in the amount of $81,928.15 was approved for payment The placement of asphalt on the Roxboro Bridge, for approximately 300 feet on each side of the bridge and 250 feet to the east and west side of Cone. 2and 3, was autho­ rized. The quotation received from Lavis Contracting Co. Ltd. for approximately 400 tons of HL4 hot asphalt supplied and placed at $40 per imperial ton was accepted. It was brought to council's atten­ tion that Tiny Township in Simcoe County had met with the Minister of Municipal Affairs to express their concerns with the restructur­ ing of the township's boundaries which will result in large assess­ ment loss. They want to ensure that restructuring in Ontario creates stronger, more viable municipal units and does not simply encour­ age assessment grabs by urban municipalities. The resolution from the Town of Capreol, regarding the present Criminal Justice System in Canada, was also supported. The Town of Capreol has peti­ tioned Parliament to recognize that crimes of violence against a person are serious and abhorrent to soci­ ety. They want to see legislative changes amending the Criminal Code of Canada, the Bail Reform Act and the Parole Act to ensure that no criminals are released with­ out bail hearings presided over by judges and that the public's safety is ensured. Council denied a request for a donation to the 1993 tractor draw sponsored by the Seaforth Agricul­ tural Society. Diane Peckitt was appointed as the township’s representative to the Huron County Farm and Home Safety Association. A by-law to adopt the current later dale.
