Reach for the top In a summer when most people are having problems getting anything to grow, Mrs. Doris Fischer of Brussels seems to have the magic touch. This 13 foot sunflower not only has the height, it has 11 or 12 flowers as well. Brussels CIBC gets new manager The Brussels branch of the CIBC has a new manager as of Monday, Aug. 24 as former manager, Neil Thompson, has transferred to the New Liskeard branch. After a period of two years and nine months at the Brussels branch, Mr. Thompson received the trans­ fer he had requested to northern Ontario. He and his family will be living in Haileybury, which neigh­ bours New Liskeard. Mr. Thompson said he and his family have enjoyed their stay in Brussels. They have left a lot of friends behind, but they promise to Brussels September Council Meeting NOTICE OF DATE CHANGE The September Council Meeting will be held on TUESDAY, September 1, 1992 at 7:00 p.m. in the Municipal Office. Karen and Steven Darling of Lis- towel are opening a unisex hair shop for all ages at 477 Tumberry St. North in Brussels. They plan on being open for Sept. 1 with a grand opening on Sept. 3. Plans set for Legion Week BY SANDRA JOSLING Legion week is approaching quickly. The date is Sept. 20 - 26. The reason for this week is to open the doors to the general public to explain what purpose the Legion serves within the community. Some activities have been organized. A rib, sausage and kraut dinner will kick off the week's activities. On Tuesday evening the Cadets will be ready to answer any questions Brussels People John and Scott Raven, Irricana, Alta, have been visiting at the home of Jean Bewley since the first of August. Aug. 20, their mother, Brenda, flew into Toronto where she was met by her sister, Mary. Jean and boys spent the day visiting at the home of Mary and Wayne Baker, Nobleton. Mary Yuill, Seaforth has also been a visitor at her daughter's home. The Ravens will be returning to Alberta on Wednesday. NOTICE TO BRUSSELS TAXPAYERS Third payment of taxes due September 4,1992. Donna M. White Tax Collector I The venture is a new one for the Darlings. Mrs. Darling has com­ pleted school just recently and has also worked as a hairdresser in another establishment. She didn't find that situation very satisfying and wanted to try working on her own. Mrs. Darling will be working solo at the beginning in hopes of concerning their program and on Sept. 25 the “Blue Chips” will be performing for the Pub Night. All functions are open to the public. Results of the euchre held on Wednesday, Aug. 19 are as follows: high lady, Erma Brighton; high man, Bill Nethery; low lady, Laura Groves; low man, Verna Tunney; most lone hands, Ross Brighton and Deb Best; most zeros, Bill Little and Deborah Cann.
