Within five minutes, Blyth scored again as Rolf and Jeremy Van Amersfoort manoeuvred the ball to Brad Anderson who beat the keeper. Newton came back with an easy goal but Blyth soon scored again as Brad got his second of the game after Lindsay set him up. At half time the team was complimented on their efforts and they played the second half much the same. After Kelly and Lindsay fed the ball up the side line, Amanda Anderson made the last attempt to beat the goalie for Blyth's fourth goal. Newton got their second of the night to make it a 4-2 game. With only seconds left in the game, Rolf, Brad and Lindsay displayed some beautiful passing skills within 10 feet of the net. Lindsay got the final goal of the game. Blyth played a good game offensively, and also showed superb defense. Jerry Mason played well in goal. This marks the end of the soccer season. MOSQUITO SOCCER TOURNAMENT On Aug. 15, Goderich was the place of action for the Blyth Mosquito Soccer squad. Their first game was played at 9 a.m. against the Goderich Lions. Eighteen players were there for the game. Blyth got off on a very strong start and scored two goals early in the game. The first one was set up by Kelly Boven to Jeff Cowan to beat the goalie. The second goal was also set up by Kelly as he made a perfect corner kick to Michael Courtney. But before the first half of the game was over, Goderich had tied it up. Blyth was pumped up during the intermission and came up strong, early in the second half. They went ahead as Michael Ansley beat the goalie, set up by Michael Courtney and April Van Amersfoort. Before the end of the game, Goderich had tied it again. This meant a shoot out. After the first five shooters the game remained tied as each team scored five goals. The game became very intense as the next five shooters prepared to score. At the end of the second set of shooters the game still remained a tie with each team scoring twice. The first five shooters lined up again and this time a winner was determined. Blyth won the game 10-8. The goal scorers in the shoot- outs were Michael Courtney, Cappy Onn, Michael Ansley (2), Judd Hakkers, Jeff Cowan, and April Van Amersfoort. This proved to be the most exciting game of the year.
