The congregation was informed of the passing of long-time member Mr. Gerrit Beimers. Funeral arrangements will take place early in the week. The service opened with reading the Law from the New Testament, Romans 12; The collection was taken up for local church and deaconal work. Scripture for the message was chosen from Philippines 4 with verse 13 as the focal text, “I can do all things in Him who strengthens me.” Mr. Robert Datema prepared and delivered the sermon. He began by asking if anyone had ever experienced the feeling of being boxed in, and stiffled at times; that life is a bit of a rate race? Paul's supernatural strength and ability to cope with life's agenda came from Christ, his source of peace and contentment. As Christians in 1992 we also can claim Christ as our lifeline, he said, just as Paul had in New Testament limes. Our pride and egos tend to make us achievement oriented and self-made people. Yet in our world of confusion it is vital to call on him as our “source”. The hymn of response to the message was No. 449, “Fill Thou My Life”, with Glenn^ Buffinga serving as organist. Your Guilt Feelings sermon title Greeters at Blyth United Church Aug. 9 were Vera Badley and Bonnie Shannon. Ushers were Laverne, Joan and Shawn Clark. The choir sang, “I am Weak But Thou Art Strong” Native theatre to tour Another exciting cultural exchange is taking place in Blyth in August when The Native Theatre School visits for three days. Mr. Fred Tilley has sold the store to Mrs. Arlene Wood of London, both pictured here. Mrs. Wood does not anticipate any changes to the store as it is. Mr. Tilley and his wife are now going to enjoy retirement. The focus of the Native Theatre School is to encourage students to create plays based on their own understanding of their traditions and cultures. It provides the technical and artistic background necessary for a career in the theatre as well as nurturing self confidence, self expression and identity. The objective is to produce graduates who have personal and technical skills necessary for a career in the performing arts. NTS graduates use the art of theatre to explore and strengthen their identities as Native Canadians. The core program provides an intense workshop instruction in theatre skills and provides exposure to native and non-native audiences. The Native Theatre Company will arrive in Blyth on Sunday August 16 (evening) and depart Tuesday August 18 (morning). Those people interested in billeting one or two of the Company may contact Jennifer Iutzi at the Blyth Festival Administration office at (519) 523-4345. accompanied by Phyllis Boak.
