Market $1 lower at Brussels last week The sales at Brussels Livestock for the week ending July 31 were: fed cattle, 763; cows, 181; veal calves, 225; lambs and goats, 350; pigs, 176; and Stockers, 535. The market at Brussels Livestock was $1 lower from previous week. There were 495 steers on offer selling from $70 to $91.60 to the high of $95 per hundredweight. Eleven steers consigned by Grant McMurchy, Clarksburg averaging 1229 lbs. sold for an average of $90.52 with sales to $95 purchased by MGI Packers. Twenty-nine steers consigned by Cunningham Farms, Lucan averaging 1326 lbs. sold for an average of $87.96 with sales to $93.75. Fourteen steers consigned by Woodham Farms, Woodham averaging 1187 lbs. sold F arm Session focuses on environment Conservation Farming for the 90's is the theme of this year's Huron Soil and Water Conservation Day to be held at the farm of Don and Alison Lobb, just northwest of Clinton on Thursday, Aug. 27. The conservation measures being used on the Lobb farm are an excellent backdrop for an impressive list of speakers. The program includes walking tours, wagon tours and a noon speaking program. Topics range for an average of $86.71 with sales to $93.50. Twenty-six steers consigned by Gerald Geisel, Elmira averaging 1435 lbs. sold for an average of $88.94 with sales to $93.25. Fifty- five steers consigned by W. B. Pletch Co. Ltd., Rockwood averaging $89.76 with sales to $91.85. Twenty-six steers consigned by G. A. Stewart Farms, Ripley averaging 1209 lbs. sold for an average of $89.34 with sales to $91.60. Seven steers consigned by Jim Howatt, Londesborough averaging 1437 lbs. sold for an average of $90.32 with sales to $90.35. Eleven steers consigned by Keith Johnston, Bluevale averaging 1228 lbs. sold for an average of $88.05 with sales from soil and residue management to ground water quality and ditchbank management. The noon speaker will be Dr. Terry Daynard from the Ontario Corn Producers Association. He will have the latest news on Environmental Farm Plans and how they will be implemented. Six veal consigned by Allan Carter, Clinton averaging 602 lbs. sold for an average of $78.34 with sales to $93. Lambs under 50 l^s. sold at $77.50; 50 - 79 lbs., $73 - $91; 80 - 94 lbs., $71 - $87; and over 95 lbs., $70 - $75. There were 176 pigs on offer.
