Greens full for Brussels tournee Brussels Lawn Bowling Club held its annual Ladies' Tournament, Thursday, July 30 with all greens full. The tournament was preceded by a ‘Spider Shoot’ when all 40 ladies formed a large circle on the green. Jim Coultes placed the ‘Jack’ on a ‘Loonie’ in the center of the green Brussels area man hurt in Culross tup. car crash and on the count of three all the ladies threw their bowl toward the ‘Jack’. Carol Carter, whose bowl was closest to the ‘Jack’ won a prize donated by Marj Coultes and Delphine Dewar, whose bowl ended up on top of the ‘Loonie’, won the Loonie. Tournament winners were: first, Alma McCallum, Blyth, 3 wins 49 plus 1; second, Lois Haines, Clinton, 3 wins 42 plus 1; third, Ilene Schneider, Stratford, 3 wins 41; fourth, Leia Moffat, Stratford, 2 wins 41 plus 5; fifth, Ardie Westbrook, Mitchell, 2 wins 41 plus 2; sixth, Audrey Hepburn, Stratford, 2 wins, 36; seventh, Jean Bewley, Brussels, 2 wins 36; eighth, Edna McTavish, Wingham, 2 wins 35; Marj Solomon, Lucknow; 2 wins 34 plus 1; consolation, Mary Higgins, Mitchell. Obituary Community leader passes WILMA HEMINGWAY Wilma Hemingway, a life-time member and first president of the Majestic Women’s Institute, and member of the Horticultural Soci­ ety of Brussels and the Melville Church, passed away suddenly at Listowel Memorial Hospital on Sunday, July 26, 1992 in her 78th year. She was the beloved wife of Douglas Hemingway of Brussels. Left to mourn her passing are her son Peter, and his wife Marlene of Listowel, daughter Sharon and her husband Dennis Whittaker of Brantford, and son Neil and his wife Donna of Brussels. John, Bob and Paul Hemingway, Lynn and David Whittaker and Joel Heming­ way also mourn the loss of a beloved grandmother. Mrs. Hemingway is survived by one sister, Jean Conely of Brussels. She was predeceased by brother Earl, Lawrence, Gordon, Ross and twin brother Stewart Lowe and by Harold and Ernest Cardiff and Berva Dennis. The funeral service was held Wednesday, July 29 at the Betts Funeral Home, Brussels. Rev. Car­ olyn McAvoy officiated. Interment was in Brussels Cemetery. Alcock was driving a 1986 Toy­ ota station wagon at 3:00 a.m. north on sideroad 20 at Bruce road 16 when he encountered a curve over a hill that was neither marked or signed. Due to his speed he could not negotiate the comer and he lost control. The car sustained severe damage. Alcock was driven by ambulance to the Wingham hospital with major injuries.
