Missionary leads Christian Reformed service Greeters for the July 27 morning service at Blyth Christian Reformed Church, were Merv and Gay Datema. Leading the congregation in worship was Jim Visser a missionary in Costa Rica with World Missions. In the announcements Mrs. Bakker and Yolanda Culbert were mentioned as having health concerns. The congregation is encouraged to keep these members in their prayers. The scripture was taken from I Kings 19: 1-18 with James 5: 17, 18 the focal text. The sermon focused on the life of Elijah who was a great man and a strong believer in God. He was a man of prayer whose life was guided by God's spirit. However in this particular text Elijah is feeling worn out, down on life and expressing the wish to die. Elijah prayed in a defeated manner at this point in his life. What he really needed was rest and nourishment. After he rested God confronted him with what was wrong. Elijah told God of his discouragement and anger especially in regards to the Israelites. Then his relationship with God was restored and he felt joy and inner peace. He was ready to face his work again. As Christians we need to believe in the power of prayer as Elijah usually did. We should aim to pray in a positive and assertive manner, not in defeat. We can learn to share our concerns and hurts openly with God. We need to search for God’s will for our lives, so we can be enthusiastic beacons for God wherever he plants us. We all feel discouraged at times as Elijah did. The service closed with singing, “He is Lord”. Mr. Visser and his -wife Hilda then showed some interesting slides on their missionary work in Costa Rica. At the evening service Community was celebrated with Rev. Dirk Miedema from Clinton CRC officiating. Pastor opens service with solo The morning worship service at Auburn Missionary Church w^s opened by Pastor Came singing “Deeper Than The Deepest Sin” which was most appropriate for his message, “From grief to glory” with scripture from Hebrews 2: 5- 18 and text from verse 9 - ‘but we have seen Jesus’. Have you ever met a perfect person? Man was created in the likeness of God a little lower than the angels and it was intended that man have mastery over the earth. Genesis 3 describes the fall of man and seeking to escape God. Mankind finds itself in the dregs of sin. If there was to be any hope it would be the coming of the Messiah. Christ came from being God and became nothing. How can it be that we were so low and God lifted us up? The Lord drinks the cup of sm and lif ts us up. Have you known the help of God? He restores heaven to us when the Saviour comes in His fullness. Ann Riley was guest soloist singing “You Alone Are My Heart's Desire”. Ladies’ Bible Study is held each Tuesday at Auburn Missionary Church led by Helen Baumbach. Thursday evening, July 30 the M.W.C. will meet. Mrs. Deb Rodges will be speaking.
