There was a strong active market at Brussels Livestock with cattle being $1 - $2 higher from previous week. There were 487 steers on offer selling from $82.50 to $92.85 to the high of $97. Twelve steers consigned by John Barbour, Orangeville averaging 1353 lbs. sold for an average of $91.83 with sales to $97 purchased by MGI Packers. Forty-nine steers consigned by W. B. Pletch Co. Ltd., Rockwood averaging 1279 lbs. sold for an average of $91.99 with sales to $94.60. Twenty-eight steers consigned by Gerald Geisel, Elmira averaging 1353 lbs. sold for an average of $90.83 with sales to $93.50. Twelve steers consigned by Ralph Dickson, Mitchell averaging 1268 lbs. sold for an average of $89.70 with sales to $92.75. Twenty-eight steers consigned by Schmidtbrook Farms, Woodstock averaging 1345 lbs. sold for an average of $86.90 with sales to $92.70. Forty-four steers consigned by G. A. Stewart Farms, Ripley averaging 1203 lbs. sold for an average of $90.71 with sales to $92.25. Two steers consigned by Clarence and Joe Wilhelm, Walkerton averaging 1165 lbs. sold for an average of $90.38 with sales to $92. Seventeen steers consigned by Doug Gear, Orton, averaging 1339 lbs. sold for an average of $89.96 with sales to $90.85. Six steers consigned by Gordon Daer. Auburn averaging 1140 lbs. sold for an average of $88.61 with sales to $90.25. Eighteen steers consigned by Abner H. There were 230 heifers on offer selling from $77.50 to $88 to the high of $92. Four heifers consigned by Murray Smith, Dublin, averaging 1083 lbs. sold for $92. Two heifers consigned by Maple Ridge Farms, Brussels averaging 1200 lbs. sold for an average of $84.16 with sales to $92. One heifer consigned by Tevor King, Gorrie weighing 1020 lbs. sold for $91.75. Two heifers consigned by Stanley Marshall, Durham averaging 1155 lbs. sold for an average of $87.78 with sales to $89. Four heifers consigned by Gordon Roulston, Ripley averaging 1230 lbs. sold for an average of $79.33 with sales to $88.75. Sixteen heifers consigned by Hugh Love, Atwood averaging 989 lbs. sold for an average of $86.70 with sales to $88. Four cows consigned by K & A Beef Farms, Wroxeter averaging 1440 lbs. sold for an average of $63.33 with sales to $67.75. One cow consigned by Eric McDougall, Kincardine weighing 1170 lbs. sold for $66.25. There were 225 veal on offer selling from $68 to $85.50 to the high of $105. Four veal consigned by John Verberg, Londesboro averaging 660 lbs. sold for an average of $88.49 with sales to $105. Six veal consigned by John Martin, Lucknow averaging 613 lbs. sold for an average of $85.85 with sales to $93.50. Two veal consigned by Dale Bachert, Blyth averaging 640 lbs. sold for an average of $91.83 with sales to $99. . Lambs under 50 lbs. sold 74 to 94; 50 - 79 lbs., 70-81 with sales to 115; 80 and over 70 - 76. Five lambs consigned by Jim Rae, Mildmay averaging 54 lbs. sold for $115. There were 186 pigs with 25 paper pigs. Thirty to 40 lbs. sold to a high of 63.5 cents per lb.; 40 to 50 lbs., to a high of 62 cents per lb.; 50 to 60 lbs., to a high of 60.5 cents per lb.; 60 to 70 lbs., to a high of 59 cents per lb.; 70 to 80 lbs., to a high of 55 cents per lb.; and over 80 lbs. to a high of 58 cents per lb. Safety and Maintenance theme for Farm Safety "Safety and Maintenance of Silos and Grain Bins" is this year's theme for the Farm Safety Week cam­ paign in Ontario, July 25-31, announced the Farm Safety Associ­ ation. Poor maintenance of silos and grain bins on many Ontario Farms has brought us to the point where many are in danger of imminent collapse.
